I bought one of these TV's in December 2011 and today I'm very happy with the product, Excellent image, very good performance, operates in a "synchronized" with a Sony home theater (with the TV remote control , I can operate basic functions of the Blue Ray). In Summary: When shopping for a new gadgets, I will seek options in this brand VIZIO !

We purchased this HDTV over 2 years. It has been Flawless. We have not Experienced a single technical issue with this HDTV. The Picture quality is perfect. 120hz makes a huge difference and watching movies in blue-ray or 1080p is amazing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and the size is perfect. Not too big and not too small. And, for the price, I think we bought it at Sams Club for $800.

Good unit, had failures Review by Steve

Had two failures within 14 months, first was a power supply which Vizio fixed under warrenty, the second (out of warrenty) I am working on but may also be the power supply. Other than that, works great, like it.

After lightning ran in on our house, we bought a new 47" VIZIO. We had no intentions of purchasing more than a 22", but the price was right and after much comparison shopping decided on this one. My older son bought a 42" VIZIO 2 years ago and still loves it. We were totally blown away by the picture quality. I was amazed that the picture didn't get blurry while watching an action game. The Blue-ray movie was breathtaking! If you are considering purchasing a new TV and want one that will last, this is the one for you!

I bought this TV (VL470M) about 2 weeks ago and I’m very happy with it. It replaced a 42” Hitachi Plasma which was about 3 years old. The picture is better than the Hitachi and it doesn’t give me problems with reflections from some of the lights in the room. This is a problem with plasma, although I must say this was not a big problem, somehow the eye ignores most of it, unless you consciously think about it.

I’ve had my eye on Vizio for a couple of years and I bought this TV because Vizio makes TV’s with picture-in-picture which takes input from two set-top boxes. There are not many TV’s made today which even have PIP and on most TV’s one of the pictures has to come from the TV tuner, which limits the channels you can get. The Hitachi had PIP but it had this limitation also and I finally got tired of it.

There are many ways to get PIP on this TV, but to get HD channels one input has to be HDMI and the other has to be via the component input. You can’t use two HDMI’s inputs at the same time for PIP. This works fine and I don’t notice any difference in the picture quality of the HDMI versus the component input. We have cable and DIRECTV.

The only problem I had was that the remote really does not handle the PIP functions easily. To change the audio from one picture to other one, for example, it takes 10 keystrokes. Obviously, this is ridiculous. Fortunately I had been on the Vizio website and I knew that they have other remotes. I checked the user manual which they have on the site and I ordered a remote which handles PIP as it should – all the PIP functions are on the remote – no extra keystrokes.

Not all Vizio’s have the PIP function, so if you need this study the specifications carefully on their website and also look at the manual which you can access also – it’s under “support” when you click on one of the TV’s.

I have a home theater system, but I checked out the TV speakers and I would say they are pretty good.

I was very impressed with the Vizio customer service. I sent them an e-mail to check on the PIP functions before I bought the TV. I thought it worked as I wanted it to from studying the manual, but I wanted to be sure. They got back to me in one day.

I also sent them an e-mail suggesting they sell this TV with a better remote. Again they got back to me within 24 hours.

I am about to order a 37” TV for the bedroom – so you know that I’m a satisfied Vizio customer.

This is our second Vizio our first was a 37'' that we bought 4 years ago and it cost more than what we paid for the new 47'' and it is still a great working item. In same time zone we bought a cheap 32'' from Sears that was a mistake had to reprogram it about every six weeks it was a joke a Protron 32'' it died one night while watching late night .Should have bought a VIZIO again but did not live and learn. NO complaints thanks for a great product

I have been searching for a lcd tv for a while, still contemplating SONY, Samsung, LG, Vizio? omg they make life so hard. ok So we Decided a 42 vizio.. ok great. I went to Walmart. Not in stock . I was hesitant about buying the 47" but it was the java version. same 50,000 contrast. 120hrtz. We took it home, set was easy. turned on our cable and i was Glued.!!!!!! I was like omg. the picture was already set up perfect. the sound was good. the size was perfect ( thats what she said ) and i was happy with this purchased. Still have to play with some things to add. Like sound bar. but its perfect.

i purchased my visio after going through 2 sony lcd tvs the vizio has the same picture quality as the sony,and the price was unbeatable great tv at a great price.remember brand name isn't always better. i will be buying another vizio in the future for my daughters room happy shopping.

Right now I don't have HD programming but still the picture quality is very good for basic cable. I would greatly recommend this product to anyone who's thinking of replacing their old TV.

I had an old 19" CRT TV until I bought the vl470m a couple of months ago. I couldn't find a lot of professional reviews for this model online, but the few I did find all gave it higher scores than more expensive models from the bigger brands. Just comparing it side by side to the other models at Walmart I was very impressed. The picture quality is really amazing. I can see where others are coming from who say the smooth motion mode makes things look "weird" in some cases. I usually turn it off when I'm watching movies, but for some things it really works amazingly well. I got the Planet Earth series on blu-ray, and a lot of the aerial panning shots look kind of jerky, but with the smooth motion mode on looks so smooth it's like water flowing or something. District 9, which was shot in kind of a documentary style, also benefited greatly from the smooth motion mode in my opinion. I've heard it works great for sports as well, although I couldn't care less about sports myself. And gaming with my ps3 just looks great either way. The 4 HDMI inputs are a nice addition, as is the ability to play video files off a jump drive, although I haven't tried that yet.

I do wish the remote had a button to change the zoom mode for HDTV and a button to change the smooth motion setting without going into the menu, but that's about my only complaint.

All in all I have to say it was worth every penny.

Five years ago I bought 37" Vizio LCD TV for my living room. Even though it was a 720p TV is was hands above any other TV in it's specs and price range. It served me well over the years.

Recently I purchased a new home with a larger living room, and the TV was a little small for that room and I decided it was time to upgrade. I went out and looked at all of the other brands out there Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Phillips, and found many of the companies really rely on brand name more than quality and features.

Which brings me to the VL470M: I almost didn't buy this TV because the Sam's Club I went to did a horrible job putting it on display. The signal they were using the first day I visited the store was messed up. It was the only TV on the display that had a fuzzy signal and was pixelating left and right. I actually was leaning towards the LG TV right next to it that had the best picture... at that time. Between the time that I looked at the TVs the first day and the time where I finally got around to going in and making a purchase a lot had changed. For one, someone who worked in the store must have noticed the problem with the feed to the Vizio and fixed it, and two it was over cast and there was less light coming through the skylights, and the room was a little darker than the last time I was there; so on that day it was obvious why I should buy the VL470M.

The picture even in the store was unbelievable compared to the other models. And when I got it home and put a true HD feed through one of the HDMI ports I was very happy with my choice. To say that the image quality was very true to life would be an understatement. The blacks are rich and deep, the only pixelation I have seen is when there is a signal issue from my cable provider. My Harmony 659 remote works perfectly with it.

And I even like the Vizio logo that lights up all the time. White for on, amber for off.

As for my "old" 37" Vizio; It is now mounted to the wall in my basement fitness area, giving me a great TV to watch while I am working out. So you could say it has been replaced, but far from retired.

I went to sams to pick up some pillows & fell in love with this tv after 1st sight... the price is great, the quality is better. I feel like I might get a call saying that I still owe them money because this was a steal...Plug up the PS3 & I'm in gaming heaven.....THANKS VIZIO!!!

I wanted to replace a 7 year old rear projection 53" Sony TV and had liked the quality of the Vizio, Sony and LG. I looked in several stores and saw the Vizio VL470m and Sony Bravia 47" 120 hz side by side, the only way I could sum up the picture on the Vizio was that there were only 3 times I had a jaw dropping experience in my life, 1) when my wife accepted my marriage proposal, 2) when I first laid eyes on my newborn son and 3) when I turned on my new Vizio set. Needless to say I highly recommend this set for Quality and Value.

I purchased this TV last month to replace the 47" JVC from Aarons i thought was a fabulous Set.When i fired up the Vizio it was like night and day.the JVC looked like an Etch a sketch compared to this thing.Absolutely brilliant colors,50,000-1 contrast ratio,120htz, wonderful color depth,Sound is very crisp for an LCD and thanks to sams club i got it for under a grand with a 4 year warranty. If you have been looking for a Mind Blowing LCD that wont break the bank, buy this...go home hook it up and throw in 2012 on blueray on Vivid display settings and hold on!!Guaranteed you will wet yourself repeatedly or have multiple orgasms.

I picked up this TV to replace a 42 inch DLP. I was sold on the Vizio after watching my friends 55" Vizio LCD. Picture is great right out of the box. I did not like the "Flat" setting that the sound was set to by default. I just went into the menu and changed it. Now it's great. I would still recommend a sound bar and subwoofer to compliment the TV. Overall a great TV.

We replaced a 35in. tube type RCA and immediately appreciated the differance in weight. our old TV was a 200lbs. monster and took a crew ever time we moved it. The Vizio unpacks out of the box and packing very easily, setup is a breeze and it was very easy to handle, not to mention the great picture quality. I swapped a JVC LCD TV back to Sam's Club for this Vizio and Sam's Club was as always, easy to deal with. This Vizio was much easier in initial setup and the picture is much better than the JVC. I am happy with purchase and would recommend Vizio.
