I was looking for a Vizio remote on here and noticed the references to buying this remote at Walmart. Well it was available for $15 and I decided to give it a shot. It looks slightly different from the image above. The button in the middle of the circle is silver rather than black. I do like that the remote matches my tv. I picked up a used Vizio plasma on Craigslist, but it didn't come with the original remote since it had been lost long ago. My tv is 4 years old so it's certainly no longer new. It doesn't even come up as a model here on Vizio.com so I can't get the pdf manual. :( Anyway. This remote is worth the money. It will stand up vertically and fits into my hand/contours nicely.
If anyone else is planning on buying this to replace a remote for an older tv, it works. I mostly got this so I could use the Zoom function(get rid of black bars on the sides when watching video from netflix/pc). This function is called 'wide' on the remote, but it does work.
I should note that this fits my needs, but I'm only using it to control the actual tv and will probably never set it up to use with any other devices since the tv and a computer is sufficient.(Posted on 1/15/12)

This remote is great for the price, $14.99 at Walmart. However, I am having problems controlling my surround sound with the remote. I have the HTS-GS1 surround sound system from pioneer. My tv does not have audio out so no audio is run through the tv and I have yet to find a way to cycle inputs on my surround sound. Also I would like to be able to control the volume on the surround sound but the remote will only change the tv's volume.

- Great Remote for the Money Review by Wil

Well, I am here to report that I have a mixed bag of results with the Vizio XRU9M remote control. Before I get too far into this review, I will definitely be keeping the remote although it has a few shortcomings. I bought one today at Walmart for 15.00 and got into programming it as soon as I got back home. I was able to find codes for all components, but the extensive code guide that comes with the remote does not break down the components by model number. So for example, LG has many TV's to choose from, but there is no breakdown in the code list as to what code goes to a particular TV. So you could have a code that turns off your TV, but doesn't handle any other functions that you would want it to perform. So one has to go with the first match and then try out what functions work and don't work before you settle on a particular code for your model of TV.
I was able to bring up the Menu options for the TV and could scroll around the options, but when it came time to press the Enter Key, which is the OK key on the Vizio remote, there was no response. So off to trying another code for the LG TV and try out various options. I have not found a code that accepts the OK button as the Enter Key. I can turn the TV on and off with several codes in the manual.
My Directv experience was perplexing. There is a DTV button on this remote and it will turn on and handle all of the Directv commands very nicely. The problem is when this button is programmed, it over rides the settings that have been programmed for my Soundbar. I originally had my Vizio Soundbar programmed for the Audio button and everything worked fine with the remote controlling my soundbar. As soon as I programmed the DTV button for Directv, I lost all previously saved settings for the Audio button. I also tried to program the AV button for my Soundbar and I got the same behavior after programming the DTV button for Directv.
The fix was to program the Cable button on the Vizio remote to a Directv code and have my Soundbar programmed on the Audio button. I am able to control these functions on my Vizio Soundbar with the Universal Vizio Remote:
Power, Input, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute, Channel Up = Sub Volume Up, Channel Down = Sub Volume Down.
I cannot find a key that controls,Bass + or -, SRS TruSurround or SRS TruVolume. In my Soundbar manual it says the Menu button and the Info button should control the SRS functions, but these buttons have
I also have programmed the DVD button to my Samsung Blueray DVD and it appears to work just fine. So overall I am satisfied with the remote. Please note, my Directv remote will automatically turn off my HDDVR and the TV with the press of one button. This remote does not have this function. You will have to turn off the TV and the DVR individually with the Vizio remtoe. I will continue to search for better codes for my LG TV. Your mileage may vary. I would give this remote a 8 out of 10. I would be willing to pay more for this same remote if it had a learning mode and the if it had the ability to link several commands together. I would also like to see a code list broken down by Device Type, Manufacturer and Model Number. One can't complain for 15 bucks. Nice job Vizio.(Posted on 1/2/12)

Just bought this remote yesterday fo compliment my VIZIO 37" TV and Soundbar and couldn't be happier. I used to be a SONY brand person but now I'm going totally VIZIO. I'm considering returning my SONY DVD player and getting the VIZIO Blu-Ray/DVD player. this remote is also a piece of art with its slim design and the way it stands on its end instead of laying down.

This remote was verry easy to set up out of the box it works well with my pioneer receiver.
The remote has fetures that you would pay extra, the light up CH/Vol keys the sleek look that will imprive the feel of using older equipment, and it doesn't have a cluster of needless buttons. The price was great since it controlls all the mostly used features on my stereo and doesn't cost $60-$70 plus shipping to have a great remote it came with batteries so i didn't have to worry about buying extra batteries.(Posted on 8/21/11)

I bought this remote mostly to replace the tiny remote that comes with the Vizio VSB200 Soundbar. Setup was quick and easy. All of my components used the first recommended codes.
Vizio M470NV Television
Vizio VSB Soundbar
Samsung BD-C6500 Blu-Ray DVD
It took longer to type that than to set up this remote! I can't imagine this device not pleasing anyone. This is my third Vizio product purchased within the last year. All of them do exactly what I want. I'm thoroughly pleased and recommend the XRU9M highly.(Posted on 6/10/11)

- Works Fine With All My Equipment Review by Gil-W

I received this remote with my Vizio SV320XVT HDTV. I also upgraded my Directv to a HR21-700 HDTV DVR receiver. I searched high and low to get the correct code to operate the receiver with the XRU9M and could not find one. I finally read the directions on having the XRU9M find the code by entering the 991 and holding the red on/off button down until the receiver turned off. Well that took all of 30 seconds and bingo it works along with many of the normal Directv functions including recording features. Just need to test each button on the remote. I also used the 991 method for my attached Panasonic VCR/DVD player and that took less than 5 seconds to complete. Again many of the equipment's features can be found on the remote. Nice looking slim remote and am now totally happy with it.

I was skeptical about this remote. I read the reviews by other people. I doubted that it could work all of MY equipment. I was happily WRONG! It works with my Vizio soundbar, Sony DVD player, Toshiba LCD HDTV & my Scientific Atlanta HD/DVR cable box. What's more, it actually can navigate my cable box. It can pull up recorded shows, play them & pull up the cable guide. Needless to say....I am impressed!! I bet it will work with all of your equipment too! I got mine at Walmart.com for 14.99+tax but free shipping. Happy channel surfing!!

I just got this remote today only a couple of minutes and it was hooked up to my Vizio Sound Bar, Apple TV, and Dish Network receiver. For Apple TV I used the code listed for Apple iPod, the controls are a little funny Chan +/- moves the selection left and right, Volume is up and down. it does everything for my Dish Network Receiver except page down and up, not a big deal. one thing I was happy it controlled was my Sound Bar the remote that comes with is really small and seems really easy to lose. the one thing i cant figure out if it will do is change the default audio to my sound bar, right now if i try and change the volume it controls the TV volume when on different components I have my internal speakers on my Vizio TV turned off so the audio button has to be selected to control the volume. all in all this is a great remote and only 17.96 at walmart. just a couple of little quarks however it controls everything i have it hooked up to. the trick is figuring out the buttons.

I just bought a 32" Vizio TV, and blu ray player. I didn't have to program anything in except the channel search, and it works great. It also works my Comcast cable box without any setup. This is by far the best and easiest remote control I've ever owned. I would highly recommend it to everyone, in fact I'm going to order another one just in case something happens to the original. Thank you Vizio for a GREAT product. That's why you are number 1.

Works well with Vizio and non-Vizio components. I've got Verizon FIOS, with a 32" Vizio LCD and the Vizio Soundbar (one of the key reasons to use this particular remote, since other remotes didn't have support for the Soundbar).
The remote works well, it's small and light, and haven't had any major issues using it.
There is a caveat though. When trying to actually change the channel, then having to change the volume or switch the input in use, one would need to select the device to manage first. An example, I need to switch the TV from the DVD or HTPC to the FIOS on a different input; then, would need to select the volume first, then select the cable box to use the FIOS.
A sidenote about FIOS: Not all the features available to the FIOS remote are available to the XRU9M remote, such as the info button to read more about a particular show.
If the remote had a little intelligence to switch automatically between devices (like all volume changes are with the audio component; all of the input changes are defaulted to the TV; all the guide choices are with the cable/FIOS device, etc) then this remote would be perfect.
On a scale of 10, this remote would be like a 7.5 or 8, and having a smarter remote would push it closer to a 9.(Posted on 7/29/10)
