VIZIO 47” Class Razor LED™ Smart TV | M470SL

Product Review (submitted on April 12, 2012):

This television is excellent at any price, but for $750 from Costco it was a steal. I've been using Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Instant video for years through Windows Media Center with my 47" Panasonic rear projection HDTV. When that TV broke and I needed a new one, this one made the most sense.

The Netflix integration is awesome. Hulu+ on this TV requires a Hulu+ account ($8/mo) which sucks, but that's a problem with how Hulu chooses to do business, not Vizio. Being able to watch YouTube videos on it is also great. Other apps like Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Weather, etc. are also nice, allowing you to read your feeds while still watching TV.

I have not used the tuner on this TV at all, though I would assume it's just fine. I have watched HD content that I previously recorded on my media center PC and the picture is phenomenal.

The only issue that I have had so far with this TV is with the sound. There is a feature called True Sound which, when enabled, makes the volume louder for most things, but too quiet when there are sounds in a low tone at a lower volume. So, when people start talking a little quietly in the show their speech is completely unintelligible. Disabling that feature solves that problem, but then the overall volume is much lower and has to be cranked up to get the sound loud enough. This is the option I choose and seems to work okay. Obviously, the best solution would be to purchase an external speaker option like the Vizio speaker bar or a surround sound system.

One more feature that isn't useful to me but might be to others is the Skype app. By purchasing the external Vizio camera you can make and receive Skype video calls through your TV. Pretty cool!

Again, I can't say enough about how happy I am with this purchase and the image quality of the TV. The 178 degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles make the picture look great from anywhere in the room. Get this TV and you won't be disappointed!
