- Great picture, audio glitchy, hoping for firmware fix Review by Mich Steve

Similar to Tampa Joe, purchased from Sam's Club hooked up to cable box via HDMI. Audio gets really loud or really quiet. Picture fantastic. Hoping to find a firmware patch but none posted.

- Great value, super video, problem audio Review by TampaJoe
-
Bought this Vizio in Feb 2011 from Sam's Club for $658 and have it hooked up to cable box via HDMI cable. Video is great but am having intermittent audio problem. After being on for half hour or so, the audio occasionally starts into a staccato mode for a few moments, then it goes mute. I have to change channels or stop the broadcast and restart it and the audio comes back. On a more rare occasion, the program I'm watching will go to commercial, the audio increases dramatically and the TV actually shuts down and tries to restart!
I have shut off the SRS TruSurround and the SRS TruVolumn and that seems to help but not eliminate the problem. Any other suggestions out there?(Posted on 10/18/11)
- Best 47" HDTV for price, but know your sound settings Review by E470VA Fan
-
The Vizio E470VA is the best 47" 120Hz 1080p HDTV deal anywhere. This model delivers an amazing picture, dependable sound (once you apply the correct sound settings - see below), and sleek casing.
Everyone raves about the picture on the E470VA, but the sound is very good and stable, too, if you know the correct settings. To get robust sound and avoid commonly reported sound glitches, buyers must apply the correct sound settings for both the TV and the cable box. For example, the widely reported "volume fluctuation" issue on the E470VA is resolved simply by turning the SRS TruVolume sound effect to "off." (The SRS TruVolume over-reacts on some channels and some shows, so you have to use it sparingly. I keep it off most of the time.)
For the fullest, most dependable sound performance, turn both SRS features to "off," and then set the Bass to 65 and the Treble to 80. You'll be quite impressed with the performance of these speakers at that setting. They pump out full dependable sound. I like the SRS sound effects, but only sparingly, and on select channels and shows. There is just too much signal variation coming from todays networks, and the SRS TruVolume over-reacts to the signal variations, resulting in volume fluctuation.
Finally for all the DISH users here who experience a "sound cutting out issue" with the E470VA, simply get your DISH remote and go to the "Audio Output" menu screen to change the settings. You should set "Volume Leveling" to "DISABLE," and set "Decoder" to "PCM ONLY," and set "Mode" to "RF." If you apply these DISH sound settings, you will never have the sound cut out mysteriously on your Vizio. It's all about the settings. Remember, your Vizio has to interact with cable box settings, and so you have to get these sound settings right.
This is the best 120Hz HDTV on the market for the price. No question about it. Just know your sound settings.(Posted on 8/10/11)
- Excellent TV Review by JJ2008

We bought this TV about three years ago and love it. I had never heard of Vizio before we bought one. I just bought a second 32 inch LCD Vizio and when these go out will purchase Vizio again!!! And a side note.... I just bought the Vizio surround sound bar and it is AWESOME!!!!

- Great picture... great price... but... Review by aszid

Overall I'm pretty happy with this tv. However people should know that when using this with certain other home theatre things, it will interfere.
I have a media center computer, with remote. This TV pumps out constant IR interference that makes my media center remote useless. My Cable box remote is not as bad, but laggy still.
There are a number of settings in the menus that *might* fix the issue, however when you're using HDMI, these options are all locked out, for no apparent reason, aside from perhaps Vizio knowing what you want your tv set up to, better than you do.
For basic use, it's a great tv. If you have a lot of things plugged in, and a pile of remote controls, be prepared for some frustration...(Posted on 3/1/11)
- Visio Non Glossy Frame-Great Review by Babe
-
We are not big TV watching people but when our kids visit they want to to throw our old TVs out the window. We gave in and they have selected several brands. We liked all the brands but we have selected a 47" Visio, ONLY because the frame is NOT super glossy. We hate the ugly supper glossy frames that reflect everything in a room even people walking by become a distraction. Thank you Visio.

- No Regrets Review by mac

My tv is great! The picture is amazing. I had looked long and hard before purchasing and I don't think I made a mistake. I was reluctant at first, not quite a household name yet. It does take a few seconds to go to different HDMI sources but definitely not a deal breaker. I have been having the same trouble as tracygo with my sound. I have even had the audio get choppy and then quit. If I hit any key on the remote the sound comes back perfectly. That is my biggest complaint. I am glad I am not the only one having this issue. I was ready to see if I could exchange it for another. Still might if I can't get make adjustments. The price was great, paid $658. I paid that much for my Philips 10 years ago and it has been dying a slow death for a few years now. I would recommend this brand to anyone.

- Amazing Picture Quality For LCD Review by Dan
-
Great Picture Quality! Nearly as good as some LEDs I have seen.
I dont have a surround sound system and have experienced a few audio quirks similar to what Ticholas mentioned above(2nd review i believe). Very minor...a couple times were there was 'choppy' audio but when I changed the channel and changed it back it was fixed another time I let it go and the TV reset to resolve the issue itself.(Posted on 2/8/11)
