Best TV: Vizio's Reference Series TVs
Vizio may be synonymous with cost-conscious TVs, but this year at CES, it proved that it can innovate in the high-end space as well. The Reference Series offers impressive visual performance with its 10-bit color gamut, 800 nit brightness level, and high-dynamic range capabilities — and, of course, 4K Ultra HD resolution. It's also freestanding with a built-in 5.1 sound bar and 10" wireless subwoofer. The Reference Series also comes equipped with a built-in six-core processor for improved image processing and smart TV applications.

** Ultra HDTV’s Best of the Best Award **
VIZIO

Vizio unveiled their Reference Series lineup at CES 2014. Wow, just wow. The 120-inch ‘Reference Series’ Ultra HD Smart TV is more than 6 feet high, and almost 9 feet wide, weighing just over 100 pounds — basically it is its own piece of furniture. The Reference Series Ultra HD TV features ‘High Dynamic Range’ technology with 384 Active LED Zones and an 800-nit ‘Ultra-Bright’ backlight, which they claim provides better brightness and contrast than any other Ultra HDTV. They got that right! Absolutely amazing!

We had to give Vizio our 2014 Best of the Best Award. The picture quality on the Reference Series is impressive, and the brightness makes you wonder why you even waste your time with other TVs. Vizio has not yet announced pricing or availability for the Reference Series, but given the history of this company, this high-end Ultra High Definition Television might be more affordable than you’d think.

Best TV: Vizio’s $999 4K TV
Vizio’s first consumer 4K TVs will start at just $999.99 when they ship later this year, marking a major milestone as the technology finds its way into more living rooms in 2014. We’ve seen plenty of off-brand 4K sets fall below the $1,000 mark, but Vizio’s cutthroat pricing delivered an unexpected gut punch to major competitors like Sony and Samsung. Those companies have come nowhere close to matching it, though they may rethink strategy now that the most popular TV manufacturer in the US has undercut them. The cheap 4K TV has officially arrived.

Vizio's $1,000 4K Television
UltraHD televisions were literally everywhere at CES. However, the big news is that they're coming way down in price. For example, Vizio's P-Series Ultra HD sets will start at just $1,000 — yes $1,000 for a 50-inch, 4K television set. Granted, 50 inches is "small" for a 4K set — you'll need to be sitting pretty close to it to see the extra resolution goodness. But a grand for a high-end 50-inch TV is amazing. Even if you're not interested in Ultra HD content, that is an insane deal; you'll be able to watch 1080p content on it and have a future-ready panel at your service when 4K content is more prevalent.

Best HDTV: Vizio 120-Inch Reference Series UHDTV
While Samsung and LG were fighting over who could get the biggest curved Ultra HD (UHD, or 4K) screen on-stage first, Vizio revealed a whopping 120-inch UHD screen, albeit not curved, to little fanfare. It's the largest of Vizio's Reference Series of UHDTVs, which stand at the top of the company's foray into 4K. Vizio has clear designs on pushing Vizio from a brand of primarily midrange HDTVs into a company that offers the full gamut from budget models to high-end, cinephile screens. We've yet to be sold on the usefulness of curved screens, and while OLED has a lot of potential, it's been in the pipe for years now with little success. Vizio embraces 4K as its Next Big Thing, and is making it as big as possible.
