This week we’ve had a peek at the soon-to-market VIZIO S4251w 5.1 Sound Bar, a speaker unit that comes packaged with a wireless subwoofer, two satellite speakers, and the ability to connect wirelessly (or wired) to your HDTV. While several different wired connections are available, the main sound bar connects with the subwoofer using Bluetooth – and you’re able to connect to your television using this system as well.

What VIZIO delivers with this system is a fully ready-for-action system, the box containing both the cables for the speakers and the gear necessary for your to mount the speakers if you do so desire. Of course you’ve also got the option to set the bar at the base of your television if you’ve got it on a television tablet station, and your subwoofer certainly needs to sit on a flat surface.

The good: The Vizio S4251w-B4 sound bar includes two rear speakers, allowing it to deliver a real surround sound experience from a sound bar system. Its smart design lets you to connect the rear speakers to the wireless subwoofer in the back of the room, which minimizes the wire clutter that often accompanies surround sound. The sound bar itself has a stylish look with a great remote that includes a built-in display. Features are well-covered, too, with built-in Bluetooth and Dolby/DTS decoding. And it's a good value, considering it includes two additional speakers.

The bad: The sound bar may block your TV's remote sensor when used in tabletop position. Also, if you use your TV to switch inputs, you likely won't get the best possible surround experience, although most listeners won't notice. And there's no guided speaker calibration, so you'll need to rely on your own ears for setup.

The bottom line: Vizio's S4251w-B4 sports rear speakers for unparalleled home theater sonics from a sound bar, although it has some quirks.

Do you ever feel like you aren’t getting what you should be out of various services you subscribe to?  Perfect examples for me – Netflix and Amazon Prime.  Lily and Bob use the Netflix streaming ALL of the time – on their iPad or iPod Touch usually.  I never get a chance to watch anything Netflix because it’s not hooked up to our tv and that’s where I watch my shows and movies.

Amazon Prime is a service that I love when it comes to the free 2-day shipping and the Kindle Lending Library.  But Prime also entitles members to access their online streaming content – over 150,000 tv shows and movies – many of which are free.  But again, I’m not big on watching tv on my computer (uh, because I’m always posting deals from it!).  If it’s not on a television screen, I’m probably not watching.

Oh come on, yes you have heard of Google TV. We may be late the Vizio Co-Star review party, but over the 4 months that I’ve had this device I’ve watched it improve and become the type of Google TV box that my Logitech Revue just couldn’t grow into.

The Vizio Co-Star was the first of the second generation Google TV devices to hit the scene, and though there have been other entrants since, it remains a bestseller. Normally, we have just a few weeks with a device loaned for review, but the timing ran me up against the Vizio presentation at CES this year, and then there was the Google TV 3.0 update that came to my review device in early March, so I’ve had and used this device for a very long time.

Had this review been written sooner, I’d have different feelings about the device. Given time, I’ve experienced the effort that Vizio has put into improving the Co-Star and ironing out the issues that exist in all new products.

New Programs Added to Team’s IZOD IndyCar Series and NASCAR Efforts over Memorial Day Weekend 

CONCORD, N.C. (April 25, 2013) – Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) announced today new sponsorships with VIZIO and Hulu which will see the brands carried on two of racings’ biggest stages on Memorial Day Weekend at the Indianapolis 500 and Coca Cola 600.  The programs include major associate level branding on both Ryan Briscoe’s No. 8 NTT DATA Honda in the IZOD IndyCar Series for the 97th Running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and on Jamie McMurray’s No. 1 McDonald’s/Cessna Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) for the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 26. 

The sponsors will also see primary branding on CGRT development driver Kyle Larson’s No. 32 Chevrolet Camaro for the NASCAR Nationwide (NNS) History 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway May 25, giving VIZIO and Hulu Plus 1,400 miles of great racing during one of the most watched racing weekends of the year.
