Bought this tv 3 years ago and it still looks amazing never had any issues with it. This is a tv that you need to play with the settings to get the optimal picture. (should never use out of the box settings) Tv is well worth the price you can get one for now. ($698 3 years ago)
Looks great for gaming however has some screen lag with the picture settings running high. Cant beat 4 hdmis and 2 usbs which plays videos, pictures, and music. the sound is what you expect from a < 2" thick screen I use a home theater sound system. I would recommend this tv.

I've had this TV for about nine months now and am very satisfied with the features as well as the performance.

Feature wise: the amount of input/outputs are fabulous. I currently have the M420NV hooked up to the following media devices: HiDef cable tuner, a BluRay DVD Player, an older (2002 DVD player), a Sony Mini DV camera, a PC for editing content from the mini DV which is also networked to a digital media library, a PlayStation and finally an iPad.

The digital audio output sounds flawless through my 5.1 system and routing of all audio/video components is pretty straightforward.

The only slight downfall is the media playback capability through devices on the USB ports, as it is limited by playback codecs and the lack of built in WiFi or LAN. Other than that, I have no complaints as this set is great for the price range, especially considering the fact that it is 1080p and backlit via LED, rather than traditional incandescent illumination.

For the average user, this unit will more than meet your expectations and I highly recommend it.

Only had this TV about 5 hours, but its been great so far. Very easy to set up. Picture quality can't be beat for the price. Sound quality is amazing for a flat screen. I was considering buying a sound bar or surround system, but wtih this TV, you don't need it. The actual size surprised me a bit as I had only seen the display model at the store, but it looks great in my living room. High action games are streak free allowing for non stop playing. I would definitely recommend this HDTV to a friend.

I bought this Vizio about 9 months ago from Brown Box.com and had it delivered to the house. My only disappointment is the delivery company left it on my front porch with no one home and in full site of the street. I am very lucky that I have very honest neighbors in my town. I also purchased a surround sound system to go with it which I haven't needed as of yet. I'll get around to it eventually. Otherwise this has been a great purchase for my first flat screen television and it did not land in the living room either. I was very lucky to have found this TV at Brown Box.com for under $500.00 and it puts my old Hitachi tube television to shame. I rarely even use the Hitachi because the Vizio is such a better experience for entertainment. DVD's are vivid and there is no shadowing of the picture and the sound quality is excellant. Best purchase I have made in a long time.

Got a very good deal on this TV... only a couple of draw backs, one was the place we bought it.. had it on sale but didn't have the price changed in their computer.. had to argue with them over the clearly marked price of the TV... once we got it home and got the box open we were missing a couple of items... the power cord and the owners manual...not sure if this was a Wal-mart issue or an oversite on the manufactures part. either way it does mar an otherwise perfectly good bargain on a TV... picture is excellent and the sound is good, other than that we have not had it long enough to know...

Upgraded from an old tube TV that was going out. All we could say was wow.. he picture was so crisp and clear it almost looked fake somehow. We've gotten used to the way tv is supposed to be seen now.
When we first got it our cable box just had the old coax cable and the picture was somewhat poor but when we got the new box from charter with a hdmi connection it made an amazing difference. The added HD channels were a great bonus also. I think it was only like 5 bucks to upgrade the box and it added a whole bunch of channels we didn't have access to before.
BTW i hooked the cable directly to the TV, not through the cable box, and i had access to a staggering number of channels. Went back to the box for the guide and familiar format but may look in to seeing what i can access with just my TV.
Have been trying to use the USB drive to play videos but haven't found out what codecs are supported but so far none are.
All in all we are extremely pleased with our purchase and are now enjoying TV and movies much much more.

hubby came home with this for my b-day.(present for me but REALLY for him). im very impressed the set up was so easy. i love the picture, so defined. i read the prior comments, i didnt really notice the bass not performing, it sounds fine to me but i will buy the sound bar to try it and see if there is a difference. I work for Wal-Mart and i would compare this model with all the rest of the 42" LED/LCD. theres no comparison. The picture quality is second to none. the only downside is the Bass isn't very good. But added the Vizio Bass Bar and WOW. it completes the whole package. couldn't be happier.
And the price was under $700.00. You can't go wrong.

Its an AMAZING TV! However.. why would you pay $1000 on this website for it when at walmart, for the same quality, buy it for just under $700?! Thats just crazy! You should be selling it for around the same price on here as there. Seems to me you are just kinda ripping people off in a sense!
Other than that, the TV is amazing and I am buying another one when I get the chance since my ex took the last one I got!

I purchased this TV 3 months ago and I absolutely Love it! Out of the box the picture was great, then I looked up some recommended settings to fine tune the TV. After I did that I was absolutely Blown Away by the picture!!

I've got friends with Sony, Samsung, etc and they are rather jealous of how excellent this Vizio's picture quality is. They almost couldn't believe their own eyes.

The Only thing I didn't like were the speakers, the tv speakers don't have very much bass. I changed the TV's settings to "Pop" which worked the best for my movies and games. But then I bought Vizio's VSB210WS sound bar and the package is complete! The sound bar is an excellent, and well priced, surround sound add on that dramatically improves the TV's sound quality.

For the money, you can not find a better TV! I'm a Vizio fan for life now.

This is my first flat screen TV of any kind. I've been strictly a CRT guy. I still have 2 huge HD-Ready CRT TVs that look fantastic. Anyway, i was on market for something to mount on the wall of our bedroom. This TV fit the bill. The price was good and the quality was great. You can't buy another that comes close to the quality and features at this price. Great Job Vizio.

VIZIO FOR THE WIN! Review by v8mustang

Got it for a killer price, $700. When I first got the TV, I was extremely disappointed that the TV would not change channels, shut off the set up screen, remote would not do absolutely a thing, even the batteries were new. When I turn on the TV, it turns on, but when I want to turn it off, side button would not a single thing unless I unplug it. After a while, the set up screen finally turns off on its own, and I was finally able to change channels, adjust volumes, adjust the inputs to my PS3, etc.

The Vizio Technician came to repair my TV, the TV Remote Sensor was not working. The quality of the TV itself was actually in question whether it was good or not. After the Vizio Technician came, he said the sensor was not even connected. Whew! The quality is now in question at the assembly line.

Without adjusting settings, the pictures is very impressive, it is BRIGHT, it's sharp, it's great with Blu Ray Movies. The only let down is that it is only 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio. The picture quality is great, it is, but the colors can be a lot better. Get something above 1 million contrast ratio, and you will be a happy camper. And on a side note, 100,000 to 1 is actually almost the same as LCD HDTV.

The TV is also a big improvement over the projected HDTV. I can still rate this TV 4 out of 5 stars. Vizio has improved A LOT since my first Vizio 26" HDTV purchase. The 26" Vizio sucked BIG TIME and turned me off. After noticing Vizio on commercials, number 1 HDTV in America, I thought it was all B.S.. It is NOT!!

After trying out a Vizio 42 inch LCD (Walmart personal dropped it twice!), we took it back because it was flickering. Next we tried a Sanyo. It did not compare to the Vizio. After some online research on LED verses LCD, we purchased the Vizio M420NV. This is a LED/LCD TV. It was great "Out of the box!". Only thing I had to adjust was the tint p[ersonal preference). My wife and I like it very much. She likes a brighter picture with vivid colors. I do too, as I am retired (65+). She complained about the price, but not anymore after seeing the picture quality. I'm so lucky I could afford it. This TV is great for anyone.

I bought this on Amazon for a great price. Picture quality is Amazing, absolutely great. Sound quality is awful though, lots of treble no bass, the speakers are tiny to fit in the thin screen I guess. Will have to rely on surround sound system.

This is the 3rd Vizio I've purchased in a month, 22", 32" and now 42" plus a Vizio BluRay DVD player. Best value and picture I could find, after doing a lot of research on all the popular brands, Samsung, Sony, LG etc. Wouldn't buy anything else.

Save your money....Buy Vizio Review by Soggy Cracker

My wife and I went shopping for what we thought we could afford in a flat screen TV. We research the different makers and models online and narrowed down to Vizio and Sony ( even if we paid more). Bottom line... we stopped at WalMart and viewed the TVs and decided on this model, however, Walmart was out of stock. So we waited a few days and they were still out of stock. BTW I live in a small Podunk town in WV. We ended up going to Sam's club to purchase this for less than WalMart (?). Best picture we found, easy connecting to our stuff and great flexibility of adjusting to our tastes and sound preferences. This is a phenomenal unit and the best price anywhere. Do yourself a great favor and don't buy anything but the Vizio line.

First flat screen tv purchase Review by seas98

I finally decided to get rid of my old CRT tv and decided to buy a flat screen tv. I didn't know anything about flat screen tv, so I had to do my homework. I saw that Vizio tvs would get rave reviews. I went to Costco to compare all the tvs there and saw that this Vizio tv had a great picture, even when compared to the high-end brand name tvs.

I bought this tv and I am sure glad that I did. Setup was a piece of cake and the quality of the picture is awesome. I didn't have to tinker with any of the settings! This is a great tv and I really love it! The only criticism that I have about this unit is that it does not have digital coax audio output connection, it only has a fiber optic connection. That's not a major drawback, but I already had a fiber optic cable, but I had to dig through my cable stash to find it. Other than that, I have no complaints and would highly recommend this unit to anybody. In fact, my sister, upon seeing my tv, went out and bought the exact same unit and she loves it too.

We were out looking for a new TV... my hubby wanted to buy a Sony... 42" LDC 1080p,120hz, did out homework... compared prices with 5 different stores... All came up the same. Go to Walmart... look at all the TVs... This Vizio 42" Razar LED LCD
was by far the best picture we have ever seen... everything we were looking for, plus it was LED... got it for $10.00 more than the one my hubby was looking for...and that one was not a LED TV.

It just shows that you don't always have to have the" NAME BRAND" to have the best.

Best price and features you're going to get. I have a ps3 so the lack of internet apps doesn't affects me. The Tv is slick, glossy finished smooth edges and great design. Picture image amazing, recommend you explore the tv settings for best results. I don't know if my hd cables are bad because watching blurays the quality suddenly drops (Contrast, points blacks and white), im guessing the problem is the cables because most of the movie is picture amazing. The sound isn't that great, i recommend to add some surround system. Overall, great product great image, dark black in GAME MODE and adjusting easy picture settings.

I purchased a 19" refurbished Vizio a year ago for my dorm room and absolutely loved it. I had no problems with it and figured if a refurb unit worked and looked that great a new one must be better. I went to Sams Club yesterday (great value!) and purchased this 42" for my living room. The picture quality and sound quality is excellent. Makes a great addition to the room. The price can't even compare to a Sony or Samsung. I would buy Vizio any day over buying one of the higher priced units. Very pleased already.

Excellent Picture and sound Review by Den From Earth

I do not have this HDTV, But i had a chance to play around with it at WALMART, And after playing with the color, setting it to look right. It looked way,way better then the 40" sony $1,700 with no internet apps that was next to it. Great HDTV for the bedroom or kids room.
So if you are looking to get a 42" check out the M420NV. You will be glad you did.
