    Great TV Review by Lonnie

I've only had this TV about a week but my experience with it so far is totally positive. This is my third Vizio but my first 47" TV. Setting it up was really easy especially connecting all my peripherals. The only had part was trying to figure out which audio RCA out was correct so that my external speakers could be adjusted when I turned the TV audio down with the TV speakers turned off. I should have paid more attention to the manual where it was clearly explained. The picture is fantastic. All my movies look better and watching TV is a new experience. I will say that the internal speakers in TV's of this type do not sound very good no matter what brand you buy so splurge a bit and and get a good external sound system for the most enjoyable experience. I love watching the Fiat 500 commercials on TV where the cars drive into the ocean and come to America. It looks like you are actually there because everything looks totally real.......just an awesome picture. Awesome TV............

Outstanding TV and Service! Review by Nevada Mike

I bought this TV from WalMart, had a guy come to my place to mount it, and then two weeks later was horrified as I watched it fall from the wall and crash into the DVD player. Sam's Club told me to bring it on over and they'd replace it with a new one. So I did, and within 10 minutes I was on my way out the door with a new replacement TV.

    HOW GREAT IS SAM'S CLUB!?!

Now, as for the TV itself, I simply could not be more pleased. I have absolutely ZERO complaints, issues, or irritations about this TV (except MAYBE its compatibility with "universal" remotes, but that may be the remotes' faults).

First, the TV looks darn good even turned off. Its well-styled and even looks like a quality unit. Once its turned on, it comes on instantly with vibrant and sharp colors. The sound is perfect, though I do prefer having it come through my home theater speakers...but that's to be expected. I am constantly blown away by the quality of the picture, and I've had it 18 months!!!

If you are considering an LCD HD, you'll never regret buying Vizio. And for the price? I can't imagine anything other TV making my TV time better.

Great for the $$$$ Review by Mike

Had mine since January this tear and love the TV for it's simplicity.Having four HDMI hook ups is great. The picture is rated up there with all the other brands.Just glad I have a sound system to hook up to.If you don't the $99 Vizio sound bar at Wal Mart is definitely worth it.

Cost Differential Analyses of HD Upgrade Review by Phil

Three years ago I finally got on the HD tv tech freeway and bought a 26" Sony of which the contrast ratio of 20,000:1 was far superior to that of 750:1 of all 32" hd's I looked at. I settled for quality instead of quantity, and it has been a wonderful tv.
When considering an upgrade to a larger size, going to a 32' was a small step and decided to go into the 40's; and the cost differential between the 42" and the 47" was incremental. Moreover, the intrinsic amenity of the larger size is immeasurably more gratifying. I knew that had I "settled" for the 42", I would have regretted not going the distance with the 47". In short, never look back in belaboring over cost, but instead look ahead in enjoying a better product. I promise you will not think about the short term pain of paying a bit more to yield long term maximum enjoyment.
I'm in my fourth day of ownership of my new Vizio 47" HD. The reviews of other owners has helped level my learning curve in adjusting certain settings, and am certainly comforted in knowing now that I can use a USB on the set for my digital camera; and after I find a RGB cable to attach my laptop, I'll be in business.
So far, so good. Thanks to all of you.

    Phil

Great Price, Good Picture, Less-than-Ok sound, Compatibility problems Review by ChuckLePard

The Vizio E470VL is my second of three HDTVs. I have a 6 year old Sony 42" 1080i DLP, and a six month old Panasonic 32" 1080P LCD. The price on the Vizio was great - at $699, it was far less expensive than any other 46-50 inch set I could find. The picture on my Sony and on my Panasonic are clearer, but the Vizio is brighter. Overall, I am generally happy with the picture.

I have two disappointments with the television. The first is the sound. A number of people have commented on their happiness with the sound. My sound has never been very good since the day I brought the set home. It is in fact so bad that my wife, our son and I often turn on the closed-captioning to understand what is being said, and we have turned off the few concerts we tried to watch because the sound quality was so poor. I am considering buying a sound bar to deal with this issue. I would like to have one, but it is disappointing to need one.

The other problem has been with the HDMI port compatibility with my laptop. My laptop has a DVI-out port, and I have a DVI-HDMI converter and analog audio cables that I use to watch Netflix streaming on the TVs. My DVI-HDMI converter works great on my new Panasonic and my six-year old Sony, but on my Vizio, the picture will look great for a few minutes, then will blank to a grey screen for about 10 seconds, then come back to showing the program. This happens constantly. I have tried several different cables, but this behavior occurs on all of them. Also, The audio-in on HDMI port two for use with DVI cables does not seem to work correctly with my laptop audio, even though it works on both of my other sets.

I am disappointed these features don't operate correctly, as I had hoped to replace my $90-a-month cable television with $30 High-Speed Internet, Hulu and Netflix, but these problems make it appear unlikely, at least as long as my Vizio remains my primary TV.

    Great TV Review by Mickey

We needed a new TV after our 2 year old Panasonic Plasma died and we were given 2 estimates over $800 to fix. Such a bad experience we will not purchase another Panasonic product. Customer Service was horrendous! Purchased this TV at Walmart. Setup was simple and after turning off the ambient light sensor the picture was awesome. Barely fit in my shelving unit so side inputs were blocked. Used a short USB extension cable and can run photo slideshows. All in all an excellent TV and an excellent value!

    Awesome TV! Review by Brandon

I bought this TV at Wal-Mart around 2 months ago, my wife, kids, and I are all very happy with it. I don't think you can do better than Vizio. It has the best in home picture quality of any TV I've seen based on seeing other family and friends TVs. I would say Samsungs are 2nd best, followed by Sony. The Sonys I've seen all have a somewhat grainy picture, and the Samsungs seem a little too bright. This Vizio is perfectly crystal clear though. And the price is great for the size and features (full 1080p, 120 hz refresh rate).

I would say don't hesitate to get the 47" inch size, you'll be glad you did, these widescreen flat-panels seem to be a bit relatively smaller compared to the old big tube TVs. The 32inch is an awkward size, almost too big for a bedroom TV, but not big enough to be the main TV in your living room. I would say you want a minimum 40-42" TV, but you'll appreciate the 47" for watching movies or playing video games.

We recently also bought a PS3 which is the perfect complement to this TV because you only need one HDMI cable, and with the PS3 you can play HD video games, blu-ray movies, play Netflix movies thru your wireless internet router, etc. If you don't have the money for the PS3 too right away, you can buy an "upscaling" DVD player for only $40, which basically improves the picture quality of regular DVDs. All in all it's a great TV and a great value. I'm glad that flat-screen TVs and game consoles have finally gotten down to more reasonable prices, and the quality seems to have improved. I guess that's true of any new technology, they're more expensive at first and don't have all the bugs worked out yet. Anway, thank-you folks at Vizio for making a great TV! I also heard you guys have been instrumental in bringing down the prices for new TVs, so thanks again.

    Good Review by Russ

Had problem with the picture going from light to dark till I turned off the Ambient light sensor (and you absolutely must turn it off and leave it off). Then had problem with the sound going from low to high till I turned off the SRS TruVolume. Other than that, it is a great TV. A few days later, I went and bought a 42" for my father-in-law and he loves it.

    Great TV Review by CQuinnDesign

We bought this to replace our samsung 32". It was our first LCD ever, the samsung, so we waited a year, tried it out...then we bought this because of the 3 HDMI ports and the 120hz, plus we upgraded to the 1080p....I shopped around for two months before deciding to go with vizio. I bought mine from CompUSA and it was such a great deal! I even sprung the extra 56 dollars from Vizio and paid for the extra year warranty. What a deal these guys gave me! Thank you so much vizio!

Who needs LED? But you do want 120HZ! Review by Stiff Person Syndrome

Had a 42" Westinghouse for 2 years. (Don't make that mistake) Moved and bought a 26" VIZIO LED LCD until I could afford a larger TV. Liked the first VIZIO, although only visible advantage to LED was thin profile. But I had no intention of wall-mounting the new TV in an apartment. The brightness is more than adequate at this size LCD. Glad I didn't buy the 55"... this thing is huge in our small apartment. My TV is ALWAYS on. I am disabled, and virtually home-bound at 49 years old. Television is my access to the world outside my home. I could not be happier with this VIZIO. The one thing I would mention to anyone in the market... go with at least 120Hz. When I bought my old 42" this was not an option. The difference between 60 and 120Hz is immediately obvious.
Another reason I did not want to go with the newer LED TV is that I did not want the Internet capability. when I get a Blu-Ray player it will have that option, and didn't see the need to pay for the feature twice. I use a fiber optic to connect to a home theater system, Make sure to go into settings and enable 5.1 Dolby. Not enabled by default. At night, I use the internal speakers, and the sound is not perfect, but better than most.
Don't know why the price on this website is $949. I paid $698 at Wal-Mart. A very good value. I would not have been happy had I paid $300 more for LED. The TV when mounted on a stand weighs 45 pounds. My wife and I (in a wheelchair) easily mounted the TV.
Oddly, the Owner's Manual was missing several pages, but I simply went to VIZIO.com and downloaded the complete manual. Only complaint is that the remote control buttons are small and close together. Will buy a Logitech remote to replace the three remotes I have to use right now.
If you buy this VIZIO, you will not be disappointed.

I bought this TV as a replacement for a Hitachi 50" LCD projection TV. I thought I had HD with my old set, it was state of the art when I bought it five years ago. The picture on this Vizio is better than any other TV I looked at. I am absolutely amazed at how awesome the picture on this TV is. I highly recommend this set.

Who cares if Blacks aren't as Black. Review by unified

Blacks certainly could be Blacker, and the speakers could Speak-up better, but all things being said, you will not be disappointed with this set.

After you turn off the Ambient light sensor (and you absolutely must turn it off and leave it off) then you will be ready for Prime Time.
Select from 1 of 8 different pre-set Picture Modes or season to your own taste.
Most who are considering this type of purchase, already have a sound system which would be used in the event they really want to feel what they are seeing! This means that for listening to your local news, or Oprah, the TV speakers will do just fine.

So just pop in a DVD or BRD if you prefer, crank up the 6.1 surround sound, and I guarantee you, that after about 5min. of watching something like Transformers or Avatar, you will completely forget about how Black the Blacks aren’t. The colors are Killer.

I just watched Auburn spank Oregon (BCS) I’m telling you, the picture don’t leave much to be desired.
Buy with confidence, got mine from EBAY 470$ like new.

Happy bunny so far Review by Shorty

After a LOT of research and mind changing, I finally took the plunge and got the E470VL from the local Sebring (FL) Walmart last Saturday for $698. Installation was simple out of the box (just a dvd player and cable box to connect) but the colors were awful and no sound. Tried everything and finally made use of the online chat facility on the VIZIO site and got it sorted in 5 mins flat.

(Seems using the cable box remote to power up the tv (before I'd entered a code for the tv) was the problem)). Bizarre but true.

Since then the tv has been a dream as I knew from my research to immediately turn off the ambient light sensor. There are enough menu settings to keep everyone happy with sound and picture options although I was, foolishly I guess, hoping the PIP feature would work. I've used a HDMI cable so how could it !!

I was also concerned 47" wouldn't be large enough as we sit 27" from the unit but it's fine. Can read subtitles and the tv guide perfectly.

Picture quality is remarkable even standing next to the screen and my concerns about reflections (large living room with many windows) have been unfounded. Having pushed the tv into an entertainment slot with only a centimetre spare on either side, it's a pain that some of the ports aren't at the front......like the USB port as I want to use the photo slideshow feature a lot as who doesn't want a 47" picture viewer ?!
A headphone socket would've been nice too (for my cordless headphones) and I'd also like to have been able to plug in my small but excellent Bose speakers - although the tv speakers are good enough.

So after only two days for this review, I'm VERY happy with my purchase. Others may complain about gaming quality or even the lighted VIZIO logo on the front being a distraction but neither affect me and I'd definitely recommend the E470VL.

Can't wait to open the box Review by GARY

Picked this up yesterday for a steal at Costco in Temecula CA. $650 after instant rebate. Think I have the record for the best price so far? Was the last one they had on the shelf and a lady kept asking me if I am going to really really buy it because she wanted it as she saw me wheeling it through the warehouse while doing my other shopping. The new 47" side LED models are now in for about $800 which is still a good deal but since I could not see any difference in quality between the two I figure the main advantage of the LED technology is it is thinner which i don't care about. This will be for the loft to replace a 26" CRT. In 2005 I bought a 50" Maxent without tuner for about $1200 at Costco which was a steal at the time. Still works great but even greater is how Visio is able to sell at this price. Can't wait to open the box on Christmas day. the kids doesn't know yet. ho ho ho

There is a better option Review by Art

First, I have purchased four Vizio TV's in the last 3 years for me and family members. So far 100% satisfaction with these TV's.

I purchased this 47 inch TV recently from Costco for a great price ($723.00) for a third bedroom. When I compared this receiver with my Vizio plasma I was disappointed with the contrast ratio, it was suppose to be 100,000 to 1, but it didn't appear so, so I took it back to Costco and bought the Vizio 55 inch E550VA LCD. The price $890 (black Friday sale). What a big improvement in the contrast ratio, that is deeper blacks, even though the contrast ratio claimed to be 50,000 to 1. Also the sound was much improved, although the sound sometimes go from soft to loud for no apparent reason. When using a Blu Ray disc at 1080P you can comforable set just a few feet from this TV and it feels like you are at the movie. My next Vizio will be the 65 inch 3D LCD/LED model. It is priced more than $2,,000 below the Samsung similar model.

    Excellent Value Review by Ross

Purchased this TV at Costco on Black Friday for $649. Great picture and sleek simple good looking outer frame. This model is the best looking of all the Vizio 47 inch units.
Someone mentioned an electronic smell coming from the unit, I don't have that with mine at all. Picture quality is equal to Sony, LG and Samsung for $100s less. Buy it you will be happy.

    Good choice Review by awgiedawgie

After looking at and researching TV's for several months, I kept coming back to this one. One of my most important criteria was PIP/POP capability with PC input, so I can use it as my computer monitor and still be able to watch TV at the same time. It works great! I only wish there was a little more versatility with the PIP/POP. You can't view two HDMI sources at the same time. But needing the PIP/POP seriously narrowed my available options, and most other brands that had PIP did not have POP, and even the ones with only PIP were several hundred dollars more than this one.

After all that, choosing this one really was a no-brainer. The excellent picture quality, even with non-HD sources, was for me just a bonus. Of course, the picture quality, no matter what the source, is every bit as good as the more expensive brands, and the 100,000:1 contrast ratio allows me to taylor the picture to look its best for any media.

I just received this tv as a birthday present and I have to say it was the greatest tv I have ever owned. The sound and picture is excellent. It is great for movies, videogames and plays everything with great quality.

Should have done this sooner Review by Leedur

After our 10 year old Phillips 27" tv literally died, we were forced to change with the times as my kids would say. The old tv weighed about 200 lbs, I kid you not. I had my heart set on a "large" tv, and we ended up purchasing the Vizio HD 47" at the local Sams. First of all it was so easy to unpack and set up. We also had to upgrade our local satellite dish to take advantage of the HD picture. That's what really makes the screen come to life. After that was done, we were thrilled, and still are with this tv. Every time we would sit down to watch tv, my husband would say, "Gee that's a big tv". Honestly this went on for weeks. He's used to it now. I would recommend this Vizio to anyone looking for a new tv, as I think the picture is fabulous. I just hope it last 10 years like the old one !!

Positive - but problem with remote Review by Adam

Great TV. Great definition. Only drawback was the cable box remote would not work. After hours of effort and calls to cable company found that the ambient light sensor was interfering with the remote control. Disabled the feature and the cable box remote works fine. Very pleased with the TV.

    Fantastic TV Review by George

Just got this Tv this past week at Walmart and it's my first LCD HD. I have to say I really like it. I first bought a 42 inch at first but noticed it didn't have many hook ups on the back. So I decided to go with this one which has more hook ups not to mention a much bigger screen.
I just wish Vizio would add a function where you can turn off the Vizio logo. I noticed on some brands like LG you can turn off the stand-by light as well as the power on light. Other than that this is a great TV.

    Blown Away Review by papi

My new Vizo HDTV has to be the best investment we could have made. The picture is so beautiful and full of vivid colors we are just blown away. Everything from sports, nature shows, and movies have taken our TV viewing to another level. Oh did I mention that 47" was very inexpensive.

AWESOME IN EVERY REGARD! Review by DARTHNALGAS

Purchased on a tax free weekend in Mass. I had done 2 weeks of internet research on LCD HDTV's and was set on a SONY or SAMSUNG until I decided to go ahead and look at this VIZIO that was on my list and it met or surpassed every quality I was looking for in a LCD HDTV. From picture quality to connectivity I was very happy with VIZIO'S features. To sum it up I was able to save about $450.00 to $500.00 and tax and am now a very happy owner of a VIZIO LCD HDTV! 5 STARS VIZIO!

Awesome HDTV at an awesome price!! Review by gabi

I've been looking to purchase a 46" HDTV but did not want to go into debt doing so. After doing my research, LED is still newer technology over LCD and I couldn't find the price point that I was looking for. Almost went with a Samsung at Walmart when I decided to check pricing one more time on the web and lo and behold.....BJ's has an instant $ 110.00 dollar rebate for a final cost of $ 689.99!!! I couldn't believe it!! Rushed down to get me one before they were sold out. Hooking it up tonight so I will report back with a full review.

Best Value to be Found Review by Bill

I looked around all the stores and online for an hdtv. i was about to buy an open box 42" Insignia from Best Buy, when I happened to drive by a WalMart. Took a look and saw the Vizio 47" E470VL and for $150 less and with better features. I also bought the $98 Vizio Sound Bar and it Looks and Sounds like I'm in the theater. Connected with my PS3, with built in Blu Ray, I can't wait to get home to 'Go to the Movies'..........

ATT u-verse issues. Review by wellypo

When I bought the TV I could not get a clear HD reception with U-verse. I was also having a problem with the u-verse remote changing channels. I had u-verse visit my house and even bought a radio- frequency remote. Still no solution. With luck I turned the backlight setting to off and all of a sudden the picture cleared and remote works. Now I love the set and would strongly recommend it.

Recently purchased at Sams Club for $ 748. The TV was easy to set up and the image looks amazing. Sound from the built in speakers is adequate. For the money this TV can't be beat, very happy with my purchase.

great tv, just one problem Review by Clintk695

We were blown away when we first got our tv. It has a great picture and wonderful sound. There are so many features and adjustments, you could sit for hours making adjustments. The only problem we had is for the last two weeks our remote would not work at night and we could not figure out why. It turns out the Ambient light sensor technology, on the tv, when on, prevents our IR remote from working. So I had to turn it off. I have not found a reason for this or a cure.

    Astonishing Review by Gene

Must say a really great deal.

I purchased a new 50" RCA projection TV about 10 years ago. The noise finally got to me.

Shopped around for about three weeks only to visit Walmart and find the the Vizio 47" to be near what I wanted. I already have a 37" vizio and the pictures on both are simply amazing for the value. Thanks Vizio.

    Fantastic Deal! Review by John

It came time to replace an old rear-projection tv, so I started doing a little shopping with a goal in mind of >/=$1,000. After a few stops at various retailers, I gave Walmart a try. I was truly astonished by the variety of 1080 LCDs they offered, but none caught my eye more than this TV. The 47" Vizio model was by far the best deal @ $798 with 120hz refresh rate, full1080 resolution and 3 HDMI ports. Of course I was a bit skeptical, but when I got it home and hooked it up to all of my components, I could not believe the picture quality! I already had a 32" HD Vizio (720p), but this 47" is by far the best TV I have ever owned. I strongly recommend it to anyone in the market for an HD upgrade.

So far so good Review by Keypaw

I purchased my 47" Vizio on 7/21/10 and so far I'm pleased with the unit. I expected to pay $100-$150 more than I did. I lucked out and caught a sale.

Excellent TV for the money Review by Dan

I originally bought the E420VL last month, but it was just too small for the room we where we were using it. So, returned it to Costco and bought the 47 inch model (on sale for only $80 more than what I paid for the the 42" model). And I'm glad I did. The picture on the 47" is vastly superior to the 42" (perhaps it was just the TV). The sound quality is excellent and picture quality is something you would expect on a much higher priced TV. I'd recommend this TV to anyone looking to upgrade to HD.

Nice TV, but, strange smell electronic smell Review by SAP

Very nice picture and sounds qualities.
Had been waiting for the LED and 3D release to drive the LCD market prices down.
Got this TV/model for $798 recently at Walmart.
The only concern I have is that it emits an 'electronic heat smell' that is very noticeable.
No sparks, no smoke... just the smell.
I have noticed this with other newly purchased electronics occasionally, and they generally go away in a few weeks.
Time will tell on this one, if it doesn't improve in a couple weeks, I'll return it for another model.
Again, for the price range, a very nice product. (minus the electronic smell :)

My first and best ever LCD HDTV. Review by jcharro

Purchased my 47 inch Vizio on July 4th 2010 and was blown away by the clarity and sound this TV has to offer. Blu-ray DVD's with HDMI are astonishingly clear and vibrant. I'm sticking with Vizio's guns from here on out.

    NICE! Review by GriffeyJR

I recently received this as a gift for my birthday to add to my newly created man cave and I must say I LOVE it! So far I have enjoyed watching ALL my blu-ray movies over and over again! With the addition of my ps3 and my 5.1 Sony surround sound this TV brings everything to life! The only complaint that I have is with the remote! It is kind of dull to use hence I use my cable box remote instead. The movies look great, plus being a baseball fan its great to watch a game. I would have bought this TV anyways had it not been a gift and I would recommend this to anyone looking to stay under $1000.00. This is a great TV so far.

    Excellent Review by Mojo Potatoes

Was looking at a Sony 40" for around the same price, glad I took a chance and went with this new Vizio 47" (there are currently no reviews aside from erik's on any sites!)
The image is great, great contrast, true to life colors - the blacks are blacks, great controls allow you to fine tune the tv to your liking and the sound is great out of the box although we have set up our home theater now.
Best electronic buy we've done in a while.
