- Great quality and awesome features for an amazig price Review by JLJKGChrister
-
I purchased this TV in June 2012 for my husband for Father's day. We were amazed at the features this TV has for the price (which has dropped since then!). We get comments all the time about the quality of the 3D movies being better than the theaters .The picture quality in HD and SD are great, too. Having built in apps is very convenient. We no longer have to hook up another device to watch Netflix. Plus, having access to Amazon Vidoes, Vudu, YouTube, etc. right on the TV is a plus. We couldn't have made a better choice when it came to purchasing a new TV!
My absolute only complaint is the sound quality could be improved upon, but it is not by any means horrible. I'm sure adding a sound bar would remedy this.(Posted on 3/16/13)

Bought this for Christmas (2012) and couldn't be happier.
Just got the Vizio 3D blue-ray and tried it on "Life of Pi" 3D. The humming bird in the beginning was in the middle of the room, just great.
My only complaint is in the tv remote. The buttons are to sensitive and it double clicks the numbers or mute. I keep having to retry. This has been my only problem so far.(Posted on 3/14/13)
- 1 Year Review Review by Susi
-
I've had this tv for over 1 year now and it is amazing. I've had no problems with this product. I purchased originally because of the 3D but the picture and features are great. I read all of the reviews for this tv and a lot of them were negative but I went ahead and purchased it anyway. I'm glad that I did I've not had a single problem. I would recommend this tv to anyone who enjoys 3D and video games or just plan old tv itself.

- Excellent Quality; Five Stars TV Review by XTVLOWPRICE
-
This TV is "FIVE STARS"...I got John Carter 3D and it was low quality movie. I Rented two movies directly from Vudu and OMG...the quality was extremely perfect. I love this TV and I trust Vizio will keep making quality items at affordable prices. Get VIZIO! Plus, I got Walmart extended Guaranty over Vizio's guaranty, so, I'm covered.

- VIZIO 47” Class LCD Smart TV with Theater 3D (E3D470VX) Review by Grubbworm
-
We purchased this HDTV as a Christmas (2012) gift to ourselves. So far, we are very pleased with this purchase. I have it hooked to my Yamaha A/V Receiver, LG Blu-Ray Player, wireless to the computer, no complaints whatsoever. Easy to install and setup, wireless works like a champ, great HD picture, awesome 3D. I read some bad reviews about the speaker sound on this model, but we have had no bad experiences with it. Obviously, it is not 5.1-surround sound, but the quality is just fine. This is our first HDTV, so we wanted one that would blow us away and have a very reasonable price tag. I wanted the Smart wireless to stream movies from my computer, the USB ports for my chip, the 3D capability for obvious reasons, and the 120hz refresh rate for watching sports. I read tons of reviews and found this to be the best one for the money. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something similar, it is absolutely the best bang for the buck.

Ok, I had bought this tv about 18 months ago now i have a solid black line going horizontally across the middle of my tv about 5 inches thick. when i had originally bought the tv i was absolutely amazed by the picture quality and the apps were cool, the fact that it is 3d is another awesome feature that i have used frequently. but now the tv is barley working. if i could go back in time i would definitely buy something else. very unhappy about this situation. i hope this helps someone else before you make the same decision.

- 1 Month with the Vizio E3D470VX Review by mindsci
-
I have had my VIZIO E3D470VX 47-Inch 3d HDTV for 1 month now and have used EVERY feature... It Rocks! The picture is beautiful with excellent blacks and colors. It has tons of intuitive picture adjustability. I broke its 3D cherry with Titanic 3D, it was beautiful. For 3D I set the picture to VIVID and there isn't a noticeable loss in brightness. I also watched the 3D content that was available thru the VIA (Vizio Internet Apps) it is quite impresssive too. Both wired and wireless performance are great. I have CenturyLink Internet and a TP-Link Router with 5 ethernet devices connected. The Vizio streams Netflix Amazon Prime and VuDu great. Even lower resolution streamed content looks exceptionally good too. My remote has been working just fine. It is not too small and its QWERTY keys are easy to press. The remote is heavy and has a good build quality as does the TV. I also got a Vizio full backlit remote for $20- I mostly watch in a very darkened room. The picture on the E3D470VX is as good as it gets for any LCD HDTV, and I am a Videophile and Blu-Ray movie junkie. I went with LCD over LED because LED TVs are still experiencing quite a few problems with banding and blocking (all brands). In addition, a lot of LG and Samsung units have been failing from power capacitor problems. Many of Vizios TVs are built for them by Amtran Technology a well respected company. Vizio teams design their TVs and then get them built by the best available contractors (see the JD Powers awards). Moreover, Vizio is an AMERICAN company, so the profits stay here! LCD TV Tech is quite mature too and at its very best. An LED TV might have a longer lifespan, but face it LCD TVs have at least a 70,000 hour lifespan which works out to 8 years if it's on 24hr per day! 4 HDMI's are a must with my setup. I have it paired with a Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-Ray Player that also has wifi and internet apps. The Sony also has DNLA so I can access PC based content on my Vizio too. I got my VIZIO E3D470VX 47-Inch at Walmart because I couldn't afford to pay cash. Layaway allowed me to pay for it over 4 months.
This was absolutely the most, and best, bang for the buck for a high end Smart WIFI 3D HDTV, and I bought mine largely to get 3D and Internet. It performs flawlessly as an HDMI monitor for a 6-core dual videocard Gaming HTPC too. The build quality of the Vizio is absolutely top notch. I watched the reviews over several months before getting mine. The VIZIO E3D470VX 47-Inch has the highest positive ratings on Amazon and Walmart with great reviews (1,000+ reviews). There is a reason it is virtually sold out online and in stores. I had shopped all the major brands for months for both LCD and LED models, but nothing else compared, especially in the Vizios price range. So far I have not been disappointed. It looks like Walmart and DELL might still have some. If you can still find one get it; it is great!(Posted on 1/6/13)

Purchased this t.v. for myself... yes, thats right! My plans are to move out from my sisters house and have my own place and knew I needed a t.v. I went to Walmart and come to find out they had started their Layaway for the holidays, I took this opportunity and went with the Vizio 47" smart t.v. with 3D. $598.00 later, my t.v. sits in my room still in the box and can't wait to move out!!! Thanks for all the great reviews!!!! And Vizio thank you for such a great economically priced t.v. I'm happy to have read all the great reviews and now I know I made an excellent purchase. I will definitely write another review once I get situated and have time to enjoy my new t.v. Thanks again!

after reading the reiewvs i still decided to buy this bluray player. I LOVE IT. as for the bad reiewvs, i dont believe some people have ever used the bluray technology before.. I had a sony for 3 years, the load time on this unit is MUCH faster than my first generation sony.. Is it slow? kind of, but its common with bluray players. as for the people who said internet apps dont work, i think they should check their connection.. this player does not have wifi, but if plugged into your home router, and if your internet is fast enough, it seems to work great! i use it nightly for netlflix. Remember with bluray players, anytime it wont play a disc UPDATE it.. I cant stress that enough! old players, you would update daily it felt like.. this one i have never ran into a problem updates wont fix. the only problem i had with this unit was the glue like mentioned before.. but instead of spending hours to get it off, buy some goo gone.. glue was off in under 5 minutes!!!! overall i would recommend this if you are looking for a budget player. it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive player (quick start, wifi, etc) but for the price it works and is much faster than first generation players. my longest wait with this unit was under 1 min.. my old sony took 15 mins sometimes to load and YES thats common with old players it made a great replacement for my old sony.. im sure there are nicer units out there but this one does it fow me

We just bought this unit, but we're totally blown away with features and performance of it! If I could make or suggest any changes it would to be to add video support to the USB player.
Other than that, I couldn't ask for a better television.(Posted on 9/7/12)

Well my tv repair man came over to fix my convergence problem on my rear projection tv. He did the repair and everything went pop and then said he couldn't fix it and left.
Well rather than putting several hundred dollars into old technology I decided to shop around. Went to wall mart and checked out the display line up. I needed about a 48" for the room size and so it limited my choice. I decided that I didn't want to spend a ton of money, but wouldn't mind having a smart tv, and if I found a 3d tv all the better, but 3d wasn't my first requirement, price was though.
In the store the tvs look very much the same among the main brands that is. What variations there were could easily be adjust through the tv's settings. When one tv wasn't a 'bright' as another, it was a setting issue as far as I was concerned. So my big question was, if I wanted 3d tv, do I want active or passive 3d glasses. I heard the quality of the active was better than passive, and to be truthful, theater 3d never really impressed me with the image being very dim and losing that brilliance. So I hesitant on Passive glasses, but the active glasses - with their recharging and expense and if I had a crowd over to watch a 3d movies, only so many could at one time. So I reluctantly settled on the passive glasses. That lead me to the Vizio brand. My friend had a Vizio LCD for years didn't have a problem; another friend had bought a Vizio Plasma years ago and still works although it would heat a room for you in winter. So i decided I would settle with the Vizio. Well I made the plunge and bought the E3d470VX model.
I set up the tv and it was a bit frustrating using the remote, the small buttons and firmware issues with the TV, thought I had just bought a loser tv. Well the TV did a firmware update automatically when it was connected to my router. (I had bought a dual band router, but can't get it to see the N band, but the g band works fine). The manual states that it a N band tv, but apparently not, and hence why I bought the N band router. $100 router and no N capacity, wasn't happy with that. In spite of that Netflix streams flawlessly so I can't complain too much.
The update solved some freezing problems and needed resets. So then it was time to test my Panasonic BDT215 Blu Ray player. I didn't have any 3d discs, so I settle for the 2d to 3d conversion and the result was okay, nice but not thrilling. Then I read how one could download 3d content from youtube and see the tv in its glory.
Well I downloaded and viewed different 3d clips. The images were crisp, bright, no shadowing, no flicker, wonderful depth, and the guy who kicked the soccer ball made me jump, and I did try to catch the Frisbee that another guy on the tv screen threw into my living room. The image was far better than in the theaters and sharpness was incredible. There was a scene where Autumn leaves were falling and I swear they were falling into the living room. It was then I had wished for a larger screen, but that's ok, I am happy with the 47". BTW the Vizio 3d passive glasses are lighter in color than the theater Real 3d glasses, so the screen is brighter by default. Regardless, the Real 3d glasses will suffice.
I am so pleased with the purchase and the quality.
PS - Note to Vizio, please update the firmware to include the ability for the tv to play MKV files via the USB port. Also the latest update as of August 12, 2012, lost the ability to see DNLA clients on my home network, my computer was visible on the tv's menus before the update and now, it isn't being seeing, no changes to the network, just the firmware update.(Posted on 8/12/12)
- GREAT CHOICE! Review by hboog

I’ve had a 65 in. DLP for the last 5/6 years (with no problems) and wanted something more flexible to put in the living room and use the DLP in the basement. Well I looked around and the Vizio was the best looking television I researched and looked at and I was a little saddened that I couldn’t get the 55 in. but the 47 in. works better in the space that I needed to fill. Excellent picture and features for HD programming, gaming, and movies. If you can get the Vizio sound bar, that is an added bonus to the sound for those of you that want the ultimate experience.

I am so excited to have this 3d tv. Watching a movie in 3d is too wild. I got the blue ray player on clearance (Vizio $90), and the tv for less than $630. I can hardly wait for more movies to come out. Initially I had wanted a 55", but this 47" is just as good. I am just too thrilled to have invested in technology such as this. Even though this is not an LG product, life is good!!

I've waited until yesterday to buy my first large Flat Panel TV to replaced a 54" rear projection TV that I had for yrs. I was very apprehensive I found a lot of your major store usually the TV's are not setup properly or the ones they want to push are. In anycase, this Tv is the bomb... Very clear picture, good color and better yet it has VOLUME ! Maybe not like a home theater system, but the sound is better then a lot of the other TV's I looked at.

- Excellent Panel, Great Value, Glaring Omission in Manual Review by InputLagFix
-
I'll make this as short as I can while still being informative. Summary: TV is excellent, and if you have trouble with input delay/input lag from a gaming console or from a PC connection (e.g. there is a noticeable delay between moving your computer mouse and having it move on the TV screen) then press Menu on your remote, then Settings, then right under the option for Rename Input is a menu toggle for Game Mode. Turn Game Mode to ON to eliminate input lag. More tweaks on this below.
Black levels (a measure of how dark the black portions of the image are) on LCDs/LED TVs are typically trumped by plasmas, since plasmas do not have a backlight that may leak through "black" pixels. However, this VIZIO panel produces blacks dark enough to rival many high-quality plasmas, especially if you adjust the picture settings appropriately to your environment.
Secondly, the color saturation is excellent on this TV, the contrast is very crisp, and there is a very high sense of clarity. No wonder this TV has won awards for best value TV and best value 3D TV.
Which brings me to the 3D performance: it is wonderful. Passive 3D means that you do not have to deal with those idiotic Active Shutter glasses that are heavy, expensive (several $hundred), and require a telephone-cord-style connection to the TV. With the VIZIO's passive 3D, you can buy glasses for $10 (or less) a piece, or simply take home the glasses used for 3D movies at the theater; they work just as well and are free. To experience just how amazing the 3D capabilities of this TV are, open the YouTube widget and search for "3D demo." Start a clip that looks like it's composed of two of the same movie being played side by side, then press Menu on the remote, go to 3D, select the 3D option, and then select the "SBS" (Side-by-side) option. Put on your glasses, and prepare to be blown away. To me, the 3D depth is is even deeper than that available in theaters, especially if the TV isn't too far away from your viewing position.
The widgets on this TV, like the YouTube widget mentioned above, are also extremely convenient and not at all the gimmicks I thought they'd be. The Netflix widget is compatible with the full QWERTY keyboard on the back of the remote, and HD streaming looks phenomenal. There's also Facebook, Stocks, and other widgets that aren't so useful, but the availability of YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc. widgets make this a very powerful feature.
There's also a whole bunch of small things that add up quite nicely. You get 802.11n Wifi built in, so you don't need to run an ethernet cable to the TV to use the widgets. There's 3 HDMI inputs on the back of the TV and one on the side, which is more than most people will need. The TV speakers sound fine relative to most other television speakers, although I'd recommend investing in a higher-quality method for audio output. Great picture needs great sound, after all.
I'd like to conclude this review with one last thing. I connected my PC to the TV via an HDMI cable and faced some atrocious input lag (I'd move my mouse, pause, and only then would the cursor move across the TV). Same input lag may be occurring with console inputs (really, really messes up your gaming). I searched and searched and search for a solution, and finally found how to eliminate this issue. Connect your console/PC to the desired HDMI port. Then, press Menu on the remote, then go to the Settings submenu, and then right beneath the option for renaming your input source, there will be an option for Game Mode. Set this to ON to get rid of the input delay/input lag/slow response time/etc. There is a reported glitch that may occur if you open a widget while the Game Mode is set on ON where it *disables* this mode without also changing the menu toggle back to Off. To turn Game Mode back on, find it once again in the menus, then set it to Off, then wait a few moments, and then set it back to On. If this doesn't work, then try renaming the input source to something else (e.g. rename HDMI-1 to Xbox or to PC, etc.), and then toggle Game Mode Off and then back On once more. It should work now; you may have to re-toggle it to Off and then back to On each time you change input sources or open a widget, but this may have been fixed in a firmware update.
OVERALL RATING: 10/10.
If it weren't for the input lag solution/"Game Mode" option that was omitted entirely from the menu/online support I would have scored it an 11; the value of this excellent television is simply outstanding.(Posted on 4/25/12)

I was not looking to buy a 3d tv, but when I compared the picture to the other tv displays I seen that the picture was much clearer than the others. I researched alot and read alot of reviews, which is exhausting to do but I don't have alot of money to just take a chance. The set up was very easy and it picked right up on my wi fi so that was great. Then we rented a 3d movie and wow it was so cool to watch. I don't even have my hd dvr yet and I am extremely happy with the picture. So I feel as though it was money well spent and am very happy with my purchase.

I bought the 42 inch version a few months ago and we were amazed, never had a tv with such an amazing picture before and the 3D was just a bonus. Sadly the tv was stolen from the room we were renting and we know it was the owners who took it while we were away a few days but all we could do was save up our money and move to a nice, safe place. jump to a couple of days ago and I was off to buy a new tv for this place, I went to every big store there is and searched the internet far and wide, in the end I said to myself why am I racking my brain? The Vizio I had was amazing so just get the same one again. I decided to get the bigger one i guess because the other had been stolen and I didn't want to be reminded of that so i got the 47 inch :) It was a tough choice between the 47 with 3D or spending an extra 100 dollars for i believe a 50 inch Vizio without 3D but a much higher contrast ratio. Then again I recalled how amazed i had been by the 42 inch version and my daughter loves to watch 3D, plus the thieves missed my glasses so I have 4 sets now lol. Don't waste your time driving to a bunch of stores, Insignia from Best Buy is crap, Samsung, Sony and LG all have models that have the same stats but much higher contrast ratios, I viewed them and blacks and whites can only get so black and white at a certain point. Al of those companies charge almost double for 47 inch 3D televisions. get the Vizio and buy a two or 3 year plan at the store or better yet wait until your 1 year warranty from Vizio is almost up and then buy the extended plan from this site with 3 easy payments and you have a trouble free set for 4 years if you even ever need service. Wel stop reading these reviews and go out and get it already!

I bought this tv from walmart last light for a little under $800 after taxes. I wanted the 55" because my last tv was a 51" but i was overwhelmed after seeing the picture and clarity of this tv. My girlfriend wasnt to happy with my frivolous purchase until she checked out the 3d feature and now she LOVES IT! The sound could be a little better on the tv and the remote could have been a slide out keyboard instead of a keyboard on the back of it but other than that i have no complaints. I am more than satisfied with this purchase! Thanks VIZIO!

- Great TV especially for the price Review by dhood
-
Picked this up 7 months ago from Wal-Mart and have been overly satisfied. 3D is great, sound is great, picture is wonderful. My PS3 works perfectly on this and the 3D gaming is just freaking awesome.
Cons: My new Lenovo laptop with Windows 7 64 Bit will not connect to it with the HDMI cable. Not sure why but I (and Lenovo) have tried everything. My computer works on other LCD TVs but not this one. Also the remote is very particular. Sometimes takes a while for it to pull up things on the tv like the NetFlix button or Vudu button. Has to be pointed just right for it to work.(Posted on 12/22/11)
- 1 Great TV Review by Datman01

I got this tv as an anniversary gift from my wife and couldn't believe how great it truly is. It makes everything look great from standard tv programming, DVD's and gaming. A ton of apps to select from, I can listen to my favorite sports teams on the local radio staions when I can't view them on tv. The 3D looks amazing! If you're looking for an incredible value this is it!!!

- BEST BUY OUT THERE!!!!!!! Review by NG-Vizio
-
So i have been looking at this tv for quite some time now. Comparing it with every 3D tv i found out there. I didn't like the 3D tvs that need "active glasses". This tv was by far the best one i found for the money! It has the "pasive galsses" just like the ones used in the moive theaters!, and just as good to. It's like being in the movie theater itself!. Soon as me and my wife got the tv home we pluged it in and watched a 3D movie. The set up was super easy!. had everything up and running in 15 min. The movie was amazing we could not belive it!!!!!! Great clear picture. The 3D just jumps out at you!. Not to mention that you can get things such as Netflix, VUDU, Amazon, and Pandora. Using wirless internt!! Could not have asked for a better tv. YOU WILL NOT FIND ANYTHING OUT THERE OF THIS QUALITY FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY. The only down sides to this are two small things. 1. the remote buttons have to pushed hard to work sometimes. 2. the audio is not the best but good enough for basic use. But these are easy to overcome. We are as happy with this tv as we could be! Its all we were looking for and more!. We would recomend it to anyone out there!!! If you are looking for a 3D tv get this one! you wont regret it!!! Thank you Vizio for such a great product!

- It's Great! Review by 3DGirl

I have waited a long time for a good 3D TV to come along and I have to say my wait is over. The picture quality of this set is amazing. It makes even old movies look like a video tape playing. The 3D is also great providing a Real 3D (c) experience with the same light weight inexpensive glasses used in 3D theaters. It also provides a fairly wide viewing angle even in 3D mode. Some day soon they will have the one that requires no glasses and it may provide as good of 3D experience as this set does but until then this it the set you want if you are into 3D.

- Outstanding Product Review by Peter Pan
-
I've been watching the progression of VIZIO TVs for a long time and have been hugely impressed by the specs and features, but still hesitated. You know... its a tough choice... its seldom you see the model you want to look at in a store and when you do, its often being fed by some dumb low resolution video feed that doesn't show off its capabilities. But I finally bit the bullet, and I'm glad I did. I've seen some great reviews, and I echo most of what I'm seeing. I do want to mention a few of the special items in this set, just so you will know what to expect. Some are good and some that are just the limitations of the technology. But none of this is to take away from what I'd call a very outstanding product. In fact, I'd be shocked if you could get anywhere near this quality and density of features at this price, from any manufacturer.
First the internet apps and built in wireless connectivity are a great plus, but obviously the biggest convenience here is that if you use streaming video services, it means you don't have to invest in a separate box like ROKU, or mess around with yet another remote control. Note that the TV will update its firmware (and its internet apps) automatically, whenever the mfgr comes out with an update. Very nice! Now as far as the other internet apps go, there may be some I've not discovered yet, and there surely will be more coming, but I'd call them curiosities at best so far. One total game changer here though is the fact that the remote control has a full QWERTY keyboard on the back. Flip it over and turn is sideways and its ready to go. So when you're searching for a movie or some other item, at least you're not stuck moving a cursor around on a field of letters and numbers trying to spell out a title. (Of course sooner or later, if you really want full internet functionality, you'll want to connect a wireless laptop/notebook to the RGB(VGA) input. )
Now the 3D technology! VIZEO has nailed a winner here folks! They are doing the 3D using the new kind of glasses that you use for watching "Real-D" movies in theaters. Real-D, is a new kind of passive glasses that use the new circular polarization, which means you can tilt your head without seeing double images. So... what this means is the 3D glasses are very light, require no electronics or re-charging, and are cheap... You get 2 for free with the set, and you can use them at your local theater. It also means you can easily procure enough for several people to watch. The 3D picture, based on a viewing of an AVATAR-3D Blu Ray disk is very good. There are a few downsides you have to be ready for though... because this is still a methodology that requires light polarization, you will get distorted double images if you veer too far to the left or right. For mine (47 inch model), with a couch just 8 feet back from the screen, you can sit anywhere and the 3D image is still perfect. But if you're walking around, or maybe looking on from another room off to the side, you'll lose the 3D and see double images. Another thing that I notice is that in the full Blu-Ray 1080i field (1080 lines), it seems that every other screen line is used to display one of the two images your two eyes must see. So one could argue that this is effectively cutting the screen resolution in half. Indeed if you get 6 feet or closer to the screen, you'll likely notice the appearance of horizontal lines, kind of the way you'd see lines in an ordinary old fashioned NTSC video TV, where the vertical resolution was an interlaced 525 lines at best. From 8 feet back you won't see this at all, and the two images do, after all, form into one in your brain. So you still effectively have a 1080i image. But I can see where someone could argue that the light shuttering methodology of electronic 3D glasses would offer a full 1080 lines for each eye, and technically be better. That said, the effect is very good, very watchable, and certainly amazing for the money.
Another thing you have to be aware of is that despite the huge numerical contrast ratio advertised with this or any LCD set, the human eye can see a much wider ratio than any of those huge sounding numbers. Sooner or later, without the localized control over the backlight that can only be done with LED or PLASMA technology, you might be disappointed the first time you watch a video in a dimly lit room that has high contrast night scenes, because you will notice that the blacks are not as totally black as they could be. Again, this is just the limitation of LCDs (all flat screens are LCD by the way, regardless of the back light technology). LCDs can only "shut out" so much light, and the only way to extend that is to be able to actually darken the back light in just the parts of the picture that have dark scenes. If that kind of thing is really important to you, VIZIO does make a near identical version of this set, in an LED model, for a 2 or 3 hundred bucks more. In all honesty, now having seen the black limitation of ordinary LCD, there have been a few movies whose dark scenes made me think the extra paid for LED backlight technology would have been a good investment. But... LED backlight LCD sets have their own limitations too (such as "blooming" artifacts when a bright object appears on a completely black screen), so maybe this is just a case of the typical "grass is greener on the other side" thinking.
The set also has a lot of little features that sound like a good idea, but are so subtle you'll be hard pressed to test them or prove whether they work. For example, there is a feature that is supposed to adjust the back light according to the ambient light in the room. I believe them because the set seems to work well over quite a wide range of room brightnesses, but I've not been able to see anything obvious change when I turn on a lamp in the viewing room. Similarly, there is a a feature called "True Volume" which is supposed to control excessive variations in the volume, perhaps when a commercial is intentionally louder than it should be. I haven't gotten that to work, but the manual says it only affects the digital OPTICAL audio output. Unless they mean the audio in the HDMI output, this must be an error, because I can't find an optical audio output on the set.
And by the way, speaking of HDMI... it is VERY convenient, but confusing too at times, that the commands to your set from the TVs remote are propagated to other devices, like certain up to data DVD/Blu-ray players. So you might switch video sources on the TV to the DVD input and notice that before you can pick up the DVD remote, its already turned on. You'll probably also be able to navigate a number of the players menus using the TV remote, because of the expanding standards for such commands that are being propagated over the HDMI cable. At least, if its a fairly new DVD player ( Oh and in case you didn't know... YES... you Do have to have a 3D ready Blue Ray player to play a 3D disk, on your 3D TV. ) Anyway, the issue with remotes gets a little confusing because sometimes you'll forget which remote you're operating, and of course every device has SOME features you CAN'T access without it's own remote. Then It gets even a little more confusing the first time you try to play a 3D disk, because little menus questions are likely to pop up, regarding whether the content should be viewed as 3D or 2D. Simple enough, except that some of those menus will be from the player, and others from the TV, and the only way you'll know which is which, will be by seeing which remote allows you to interact with the menu selection. This is all just the result of some great technology convergence in transition though. Details are still evolving, and these kinds of things you just get used to working around.
The bottom line though is the overall picture quality. The set offers enough options for tweaking to keep the curious playing with the settings for weeks. But all in all and right out of the box, if you buy this set you will soon find yourself sitting back watching in amazement at what you're money has bought. The super smooth motion.... the level of detail and clarity is amazing. I'm sure in another year there will be even more features, but with a set that's smart enough to automatically update itself, there's little point in waiting. You won't regret it!

- There must be some type of mistake!? Review by Josh.com

I paid under a grand for the unbelievable TV watching experience that comes with E3D470VX and I couldn't be happier.
The quality and pixel-perfect resolution continues to blow my mind. I find myself questioning... is this really my TV or am I going to wake to find my less exciting Sony sitting there on the stand.
This TV has got be worth way more than a grand - it is in my book.
Thank YOU Vizio - for making a believer out of me and for making a decision to bring this bad boy to market at such a competitive price point....a fraction of what the other guys MSRP is for smaller, non-HD flat screens that have no clue what to do with a social widget. You guys Rock and so does my new TV.

- A True Review.... This TV EXCEEDS my expectations! Review by Reagan's Dad

I read a lot of reviews and study hard before buying things like a new TV, etc. This is a true review. I really wanted an LED TV, but this TV seemed too good to be true. I read reviews and decided to take a chance, knowing already that VIZIO or Samsung was going to be my brand of choice. I already have one Vizio and love it. For a CCFL backlight display, this TV has GREAT black levels and the APPS are wonderful. I have mine hardwired, so I cannot vouch for wireless connectivity. Blu-Ray movies simply blew me away and although I didn't necessarily want 3D, even that amazed me! I rented a 3D movie from VUDU and everyone watching commented that it's so much brighter and sharper (also more realistic) than the theaters. Sound is not great but I use Surround Sound anyways, but otherwise AWESOME. For the money, can't go wrong! Highly recommended!

- TV is my Business, and Thanks to Vizio I finally enjoy my job! Review by TVOvermind
-
As the editor of TVOvermind.Zap2it.com and a member of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association I'm required to watch a lot of TV. My tiny plasma was simply too small for my living room, and the hours of squinting at it from across the room was just too much on my eyes; I needed to trade up. When my wife first pointed out the 47" Vizio E3D470VX, I was skeptical; I knew the brand had come out with some cutting edge sets, but could a TV for less than $1,000 really deliver? And. How!
The E3D470VX's contrast ratio is fantastic, offering deep and natural blacks while maintaining sparkling whites. The picture quality is first class. You can spend a lot more money to get only marginally better picture, in fact I'd argue with anyone that the additional money would even be best spent; the fact is, sitting this set next to a $2,000 set with similar specs would result in a study of nit-picking if you were asked to point out the differences in picture quality.
I will say the set is, as you can imagine, lacking SOME features. No built in DLNA, no 2d to 3d simulation, no support for AVI/Divx playback. HOWEVER, many of these tasks, and a few I didn't go into, are generally handled by another device anyways. PS3's, XBOX 360's, or Boxee setups make for superior media center - I'm not so sure I'd be ready to give up my media management habits even if those features were integrated.
Now let's talk about the 3D. The 3D this television offers with the passive glasses is absolutely amazing. It is hands down one of the best ways to enjoy 3D programming on the planet, period. It blows away active shutter systems completely, and has far better contrast and color definition than theatrical 3D systems. It is second only to the mighty Imax. My previous set was a critically lauded 3D set released in 2010, and it does not fall in the same class as this set. Furthermore, having a family of five outfitting the whole family with 3D glasses was far more economical than with the active shutter set.
The lack of 3D simulation is a minor consideration. I've never seen 3D simulation that was 'good' let alone 'great,' in fact I'd general classify it as 'creepy.' So I did not miss this feature at all coming from my active shutter based TV.
Bottom line: if I hadn't said a bit already, I'd say I was speechless - the fact is, I could talk all day about how fantastic this television is. Vizio has brought cutting edge technology and a premium home entertainment experience into the affordable range. Don't hesitate to buy this set!(Posted on 7/1/11)

This is the second Vizio for me, but this one is off the chart. The picture quality is outstanding almost like being there. Tron 3D just like in the theater. Now I have people coming into the den and they don't leave, maybe not so good. I am watching all my blu-rays again and spending more time with my grand kids. Hooked up the PS3 and the gaming is unbelievable. I would recommend this tv to everyone. The downloading of Netflix is great. The set up was easy, my grandson did it and had it up and running in less than 15 mins, including setting up internet apps. Keep making your quality products. Will always buy Vizio from no on.

- Vizio is the way to go Review by Johhny Boy

Brought this the other day for the 3D and Internet features to replace my 37" Samsung.
The next few days I seen the Vizio #XVT3D474SV for $989, which is only $38 more than this model that I paid for, so I took this back, nothing wrong with this Tv at all, but for $38 more, I get: Pip, Bluetooth, 10,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio and 480Hz compared to what this model offers. Alice in Wonderland 3D looks amazing on both these models.
One feature I would like to see happen, instead of having to manually switch to 3D mode, be nice if the Tv could identify the source and automatically change it to the source.
No problems connecting to any of the apps, and as time goes on I'm sure Vizio will release firmware updates to improve their products. Nice to have a company manufacturer good products and not rip us consumers off, as technology grows so fast, you really can't enjoy anything for too long cause the next best thing comes out and that's more $$$$ to be spent. At least I can always sell my used Vizio products for a decent price to help pay for new ones.(Posted on 6/27/11)

But when I went to Walmart and saw this model on display next to other HIGH END MAJOR BRANDS...I was blown away by Vizio! This product gives YOU MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK WITHOUT BREAKING YOUR PERSONAL BANK! THE 2D PICTURE QUALITY IS AMAZING! VERY CLEAR..VERY SMOOTH. NOW THE 3D....OMG I CONNECTED MY PS3 AND PLAYED CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS IN 3D...I CRIED TEARS OF HD 3D JOY. THEN I WATCHED AVATAR 3D BLU-RAY....MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR...I THOUGHT I WAS BACK AT THE MOVIE THEATER WHEN I FIRST WATCHED THIS MOVIE! VIZIO DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB MAKING THIS PRODUCT. I HAVE VERIZON FIOS AND THEY HAVE SOME 3D CONTENT AND AGAIN IT PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY! I'M RECOMMENDING THIS PRODUCT TO EVERYONE I KNOW WHO'S LOOKING FOR AN HD 3DTV. My wife could have cared less about getting the TV, but after seeing the picture and quality, is totally in love...Thanks Vizio!

Legends of the Guardians looks amazing , dumbfounded in how amazing this is
PS3 was easy set up - recognized I had 3D display and guesed it was 46 inches , I selected 47 inch but still - wow
Despicable Me literally extends well into my room - with the 3D the minions literally appear as though they are about half a foot to a foot out of the tv

Amazing, amazing, amazing!
Pros: Amazing flicker free, crystal clear 3D. The built in VUDU app lets you stream Full 1080p 3D movies and shows right on your TV. 3D blurays looks absolutely incredible.
2D 1080p looks amazing as well. 'SD' content is not too bad considering most other 1080p TVs on the market.
Watched Avatar on bluray 2D and was amazed. Can't wait for Panasonic took get it's claws outta the 3D version of the movie! Come on James Cameron! Geeez, didn't you make enough money already???
Played Gran Turismo 5 in 3D and will never go back to 2D. [Ideal 3D settings for GT5 on this TV is 4 parallax and .5 convergence].
Played Killzone 3 in 3D and my jaw about dropped on the floor, it is truly the way to play first person shooters!
I heard Crysis 2's 3D is amazing (far better 3D then Killzone 3) and am going to pick up this game after work.
Cons: Almost none. 'SD' or 480p content does not look too good on this TV. But, really all 1080p TVs don't do well with SD.
VUDU on the first TV I bought did not work, had to take it back to Walmart and swap it out. VUDU now works flawlessly.
Sound quality from the TVs speakers in sub par at best, but I have the Sony HT-CT150 sound bar and never use the built in TV speakers anyway.
Summary: A MUST BUY!!! Amazing LCD 47" with brand new passive 3D tech for $868 bucks at walmart! BEST DEAL!(Posted on 5/2/11)

My wife and I picked up this Vizio and could not make ourselves turn it off! This is our second Vizio and were only shopping for a new one becuase our 1st was stolen! We knew the quality of the Vizio 120hz LCD from our earlier model. After weeks of research, we were not sold on even getting a 3D because the active sets just had too much ghosting and really made it hard to watch. I get migraines and the blur assoiciated with the active glasses just was too much. We could not believe how sharp and clear the passive "Real3D" like technolody that was on this unit. As soon as we saw the 3D demo at the store, we bought it along with Tron 3D and Tangled 3D.
We took it home, set up took less than 5 minutes and the 3D Blu Ray was the SICKEST picture quality I have ever seen. The depth and clarity blow away any Real3D movie we have seen at the theater. My orignal MonsterCable HDMI was able to work with my PS3 to create an amazing experience.
And probably the most exciting news was the absolute rock solid clarity of the 2D content. We watched the preview for African Cats that shows at the beginning of the Secretariat Blu Ray THREE times and we just could not get our jaws off the floor.
Our only complaint about this model was it doesn't come in a bigger 55" size! The value is ridiculous for what you get though...we compared this unit to a 51" Samsung 3D Plasma as well as the larger 55" Vizio Full 3D LED models and you just can't go wrong. The active headsets have to be recharged and they are bulky and blurry! The passive glasses that come with this unit are comfortable and you can buy Real3D glasses on eBay for $1/pair and they will work with this TV!
All we can say is UNBELIEVABLE! The stores can't keep them on the shelves and it's for good reason. Don't be stupid...buy this TV!(Posted on 4/29/11)

- Big pros and a few cons Review by jj

First I bought the 47 inch LCD LCD 3D VIZIO because it was what I thought to be a great buy. Everything about the TV is awesome except the 3D. I paid about $1,400 for the TV and $140.00 for the 2 pack of glasses. There was so much image doubling that it took me out of the movie. I bought new HDMI cables, watched 3D content from all 3D providers and it was all the same.
A few days after I bought the 47 in. LCD LED VIZIO TV I read that VIZIO was coming out with a new Theatre 3D technology that uses the cheep polarized glasses that come with the TV. AWESOME!! This same sized TV was also about $500.00 less then the VIZIO and it claimed to drastically reduce the ghosting you see so often with the battery powered glasses. They were right. I returned the more expensive for the more affordable VIZIO 3D TV. The 3D is AMAZING in comparison. My only complaints are that the really cut back on the features of the TV itself.
After haveing some of the greatest functionality on my first generation Internet VIZIO TVs and the 1st 3D TV I bought I assumed this TV would have the same functionality. Way wrong. It also lacks LED imaging but really can't tell the difference. Also no universal remote, no Bluetooth, and the way you access the 3D function is sometimes a drag. There is a 3D button on the remote but it does not work when you are on VUDU. You have to do a work around through the menu button and that sometimes won't work so you have to exit VUDU and start again. The nicer VIZIO auto detects a 3D signal and asks if your glasses are ready.
I'm sure to get the price under $900 there are things that had to be cut. Don't let what I wish it had detour from buying this TV. This TV is stunning for the money and the best part is that you can by the REAL-D movie theatre glasses for like $1.00 a piece on EBAY and they work just as good as the ones that come with the VIZIO (thought not as cool looking nor as comfortable) but if you are buying this you are on a budget anyways so who cares right? They work.
Lastly the SONY Playstation gaming with this TV is SICK! SOOOO SICK!
Do yourself a favor and get to WALMART today and grab this TV. (Don't forget the extended warranty)(Posted on 4/21/11)

I bought this unit on 4/16/2011 from the Walmart Supercenter by my house.
So far so good. The picture is what I would expect from a CCFL backlit LCD Panel, and so far no issues with any of my input sources. Even my PS3 and XBOX 360 have no syncing or lag issues.
I noticed two different types of 3D Glasses, one premium set, and the second were pretty cheap looking, and had no Vizio Logo on them, I would have expected them both to look the exact same, but they both work. MK on the PS3 run in 3D at 1080P just fine... now to find a way to get my hands on a 3D Blu-Ray version of Avatar...
I will update this review once I have had the unit for 6 more months...(Posted on 4/19/11)

I purchased this TV at my local Super Walmart on 04/17/2011. The best part for me was that this TV was priced wrong on the display and they had to sell me the TV for about $200 less then the real price!
Got it home and it was a breeze to unpack and setup. Remote is great having the qwerty keyboard right on the back instead of a slide out that the kids can break. Hooked it up to the internet and was using the internet apps in no time at all. I have DirecTV so I changed the channel to one of their 3D channels and the TV instantly recognized the 3D signal and offered to switch the TV into 3D mode.
The TV comes with 2 pairs of 3D glasses that do not require batteries or being plugged in. I was skeptical at first but after putting on the glasses the images started leaping out of the screen. I couldn't have asked for a better 3D TV with built in WiFi, especially at the price I paid.
I have only 2 minor complaints:
1. The 3D glasses that are not the "premium" ones are kinda crappy as far as the frames go. Their function is flawless but they are not as comfortable as the "premium" also had some rough edges.
2. The TV would not take my entire WPA2 key for my network. I could only get the first 43 (I think) characters and then it wouldn't take anymore. I just changed my key to a more complicated 40 character key and it hooked right up.
WISHLIST:
1. Would have been great if the TV could use DLNA so that I could more easily share my videos, photos, and music from my computers. (Maybe there is a way to do it that I haven't figured out yet)
2. Would love to be able to use it as a wireless monitor for my laptop so that I could surf the web on it. (Again maybe I just haven't figured it out)
Long story short.... This TV is AWESOME!(Posted on 4/19/11)

I saw the 42 inch model in Walmart and fell in love with the clarity the 3d provides. So after much convincing with my fiancee, we bought the 47 inch model for around 899. And I am happy to say we have not been disappointed. The 3d looks fantastic with our PS3, and to test it we bought Tangled 3d and it looks awesome. I know most people would blast the passive 3d glasses, but one they do not require batteries and do not cost over 100.00, plus they are light and cause no flicker. Now the 1080p is halved when viewing in 3d, but I can tell you it does nothing to detract from the viewing experience, and I do not get the headaches I got from going to a movie theater to see a 3d movie. Plus all the apps and tools, WOW! There is so much to do with this TV and I still have yet to discover everything. My only complaint is when trying to view 3d with my cable company, the side by side or up and down stereoscopic 3d works in reverse, but I am sure it's a setting thing I can figure out. I give this TV a perfect ten for being so easy to use. Highly suggested. Vizio rocks.

Gotta say got one of these in my store. Its freaking amazing! Even better than the 3D that had the battery glasses the 3D seemed to pop better, and I do not get the double image effect I got in some of the battery glasses! Recommended to anyone who hates the rechargeable glasses, and loves 3D!
