- video issues Review by confused
-
Appears to still have firmware issues needing another update. I was ready to pack it up and take it back to walmart. After only a week of use, I turned it on and could only hear the audio. Checked all of my connections and tried another HDMI cable that I know was good, still no video. I had been looking for information on how to do a manual reset, when I saw a note in another review that you can unplug it. That seemed to do the trick. If you're having issues give that a try first.
Overall, I'm pleased with the unit. We use the Pandora app alot, and am considering signing up for the Hulu or Vudu movie subscription. Hopefully a future firmware update will make it less quirky.

Easy to use once you get the hang of it. Great picture quality. I am disappointed at the channel selection. If you are a conservation older person, forget finding anything of interest.

- Remote Review by julsbright

I read on here that others were having trouble with their remote freezing up or not working - same with me - BUT I found out - don't use the batteries that came with the remote. As soon as I replaced the batteries - the remote worked great!!
Otherwise set-up was easy, I had trouble with the wirless set-up, but went to the website and downloaded the full manual and got it figured out :)

- great product Review by nadams1977

Purchased this item from Wal Mart last month. Overall it is a great product for the price with just a hicups.
t. It likes to freeze up, especially while not being used for a short amount of time. I solve this issue by simply unplugging the unit from my Monster hdp1800 and plug it back in again. Solved.
And......
2. There is no way to do a manual update on the player. It states how to do it in the downloaded owners manual from Vizio, but what it says and shows, isn't on the menu or screen.....which, after about a hour and a half of researching, is quite puzzling. Perhaps someone could get back to me or post here on how to do that? Thank you.
After saying all this, there are no other issues. I'm using the vizio hdmi cable to my marantz receiver, and vizio hdmi cable to the tv. Wireless is at an o.k. speed, but I have an extensive firewall setup, so lag is to be expected. My wife loves the Netflix app and the Pandora app. We don't use the other apps.(Posted on 1/1/12)
- Good, but parents beware Review by mbecker75
-
I like everything about this blu ray, EXCEPT one thing. If you have a child, beware there is an app on here for Web Videos. These videos are most popular videos. Some of them are ok, but I ran across a few that had a lot of nudity in them. I tried setting my parental control to block it, but it didn't work. I just called Vizio and spoke to a rep and he stated that you cannot remove the app and there is no way to block the content of it (even with parental control). This is something that should be very clear to customers especially with children. Because lets face it, we can't always watch what our teens are doing and they are curious.

- so far, so good... Review by peter

got everything working after 3 consecutive automatic firmware updates ( if it doesn't need it it won't show u that it needs firmware update on main menu, older versions might have needed u to check for updates) i got this at walmart mostly for the blu-ray feature but the apps are a nice added bonus

- Remote problems Review by Goody
-
Overall a great player. My only problem is the remote will stop responding sometimes. The machine won't even power off if I press the button on the machine itself. I have to unplug the machine for about 30 seconds and then it works fine. That is the only complaint I have so far about this player.

- Great when it works Review by None
-
It works great but..... I have the same issue as others where it stops responding to remote and to pressing the buttons on the unit. Have to unplug it to reset it and then it works again. I can only assume this is a firmware issue and I'm waiting for an update. I just bought it a few days ago and I'm debating taking it back.

OK so posted first review was REALLY happy. Well tonight i had to take the unit back and exchange it little over 2 weeks after i bought it, WHY YOU ASK, stopped giving a picture, audio would work but no picture. Went through the rounds of checking everything making sure it wasnt the cable or my tv.
HOWEVER, this one seems much smoother and faster right outta the box than the first one, half the set up time cause no hang ups or anything, so HOPING i just got a bad one.
MY PREVIOUS REVEIW STILL STANDS, LOVE THIS THING,but be preparred if you buy this at walmart that you risk getting a bad one, nothing new to ppl who buy things from walmart.
THOUGH for those that want to enjoy the youtube feature, its NOT BAD but I have my own youtube channel and such, but i have to know the exact names of the videos...... BE GREAT if you could subscribe to a channel at least. And Facebook app........ useless, you can read wall posts thats IT cant post or anything like that hence WTH IS THE POINT.(Posted on 11/5/11)
- Very Happy, Goodbye Mediacom Cable Review by Tigris

Overall I love this product. I went looking for a Roku and found this. The apps i cared about are on this product and a blueray player, all for $10 more than the Roku.
I was frustrated at first as when i first got it hooked up some apps weren't there and it was slow and hung up constantly. Not to mention it was a pain in the butt to get the remote to work. After 3 firmware updates it runs SO MUCH BETTER. Remote works perfect now. There is still a bit of hang up issues if you have a blueray in the drive when you first turn the unit on.
A couple complaints though, one is the hang ups when a disc is in, takes forever to load the apps screen. Other one is the Pandora app as a bit of an issue, "volume" going up and down a bit. I know its not Pandora as i listen to it at the same time on my computer and clarity and volume is much better. Also no customization or at least something more visually appealing than just the very basic album cover I dont like but I can live with.
Overall excellent product especially for the money. We love it, very happy we can tell the cable company where to shove it as just cable costs per month what this product did for a one time purchase. Thanks Vizio, I've been happy with everything I have purchased from you guys and nice to see there is still quality products out there.(Posted on 10/18/11)

Just got this set up about a week ago. Plays DVDs painlessly, and controls the volume on my ECO friendly 32" Vizio TV, but was surprised that I couldn't teach the remote to turn the TV on and off or select the HDMI input too, given that it has so many buttons. Also did not find any on-player registration options so logged in my pc today to do that. Picture is nice and clear, buttons are fairly intuitive once you play with them a time or two. No problems getting Netflix setup - faster than my Roku. I will play with the other web options in time. So many ways to rent movies that are cheaper than cable!

A big sticker ad. was on the top of the unit out of the box! Tried removing it but it left tons of residue! Very very disappointed in that!

- Not quite sure Review by Lori

Perhaps I'm silly...I do like this Blu-ray...ONLY for the wireless feature. I had another one...that wouldn't get the wifi but this one did. I signed up for HULU+ on the other-one before I turned it in. This one only has HUDU!!! That was one problem! I was a blockbuster client for years...but when I saw how much additional it would cost me (I cut my satellite/cable service)...I went with netflix. Happy with that.
I truly love the Pandora feature...
Plus side - my costs for entertainment extremely reduced.
Down side - no HULU....just the silly HUDU which is really a joke.
The remote is funky though...not responding well in the forward and backwards reception...and yes I did change the batteries.
Change is worthwhile - my pocket book loves it....but Vizio....get HULU as a download for this player...NOT HUDU!!!(Posted on 8/16/11)

- First Blue Ray Player Review by frowe
-
Great price. Easy to setup and the tech support is great. Netflix sets up easy and you dont need to worry about going crazy with speakers and surround sound if you dont want to as it sounds great coming out of your TV. Watch the model you buy if you want the Blockbuster feature as they all dont have this available but the VUDU application is supposed to be just as good. For those who want to upgrade their DVD players and have Blue Ray plus internet options without all the Technical headaches this is a great player.

- inexpensive BLU-RAY player Review by garydwalters
-
Went down to Wally world and got me this blu-ray player and a sound bar for less then $200. Hooked up the blu-ray with an HDMI cable and the sound bar with a optical. Looks great and sounds great. Wish I had the sub but I'd just piss off the neighbors so I'll wait till I have a home/house. Anyway, the sound bar is quiet;-), loud enough for now. Netflix keeps me in bluray movies, so I'm a happy man. I love Vizio.

- First Blu Ray Player on a Budget Review by Shak
-
I needed a blu ray player that did 3 Things and 3 things only: 1) Play Blu Rays 2) Stream Netflix and other apps 3) Not cost a bundle. So I came across the VBR122 for $88 at Wal Mart and it did all that I needed a blu ray player to do.
Hook up was easy with an HDMI and optical cable. I can listen to my TV and my Blu ray through my reciever with just one cable which is awesome. When I finally hooked it up to the net, it took almost no work at all to get it connected to the apps. Blu ray player did all the work, basically plug n play. Once on Netflix, it was easy to go through your queue and watch streaming shows. Occasionally it will freeze up and you will have to physically unplug your machine to reset it. But not very often.
Watching Blu Rays is easy once it gets going. Takes a minute to get to the set up screen of the movie.
All in all I am very satisfied with my Vizio. Price, functionality, and features makes this a must buy.(Posted on 4/3/11)
